I just made a batch of these for lunch and they are delicious! I'm like Hally, I didn't bother with the cross or sugar syrup and they wee so easy to make.

Thanks for the recipe Chookie!

Snappy,  glad you liked them.  If you want to freeze and the reheat them,  it is best not to glaze them.

Hally,  glad you worked it out.  Our ovens are all different.  Also good to get it sorted before Easter.

I had a look at Bakers Delight H X B today and they were quite dark.

Chookie, I'm not keen on a sugar glaze on hot cross buns, I find it too sticky -  how would an egg wash go instead? Would it make the tops shine?

Judy,  the egg wash is usually put on before baking and tends to make the bread or bun darker.  You could try brushing with oil,  but this might make them darker also.  Egg white might also work .  I will experiment.    It is the yolk that makes it dark and if you want a dark crust you can brush with an egg plus 1 extra yolk.

Hally's,  these look absolutely beautiful.  I love it when members take an original recipe and make it even better.

Very forgiving recipe.  Just add or take out what you wish.
