I made this on the weekend for DD to take to work. I reduced the sugar too. I put some ganache made with Lindt Strawberry Intense. DD mentioned everyone liked the subtle strawberry taste!!  The recipe has been spread round her work now as well. Thanks ILB.

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

ILB, thank you for this brilliant and simple recipe. 😋 I used to avoid making choc cake due to the extra step of heating up cocoa. So messy too.

My most recent birthday cake that I baked last week for DH 😄

That looks amazing BZB. My family really like this cake but I've never been able to make it without it doming really badly, I've tried everthing but just doesn't work for me  :-\

MJ, I used creamy vanilla frosting for the layers and ganache for the topping. All made in TM 😃

Wonder, the cakes domed on me too. Had to make 2 rounds of cakes to get 4 layers.

Thanks BZB, I thought it was just me  ;D I've just made the standard version into cupcakes for DD's birthday gathering tonight and will ice later on. The cupcakes look really good.

Made this (DF substitutions tho) into cupcakes today, to fill out the lunch boxes for the next 2 weeks (til end of school term.)

Oh dear, Astarra, those lunch boxes might be empty after all! ;) 
Making some here too but will hopefully get them into the freezer before too many get eaten!

Could someone help me with a question regarding this cake. I have always made this using brown sugar and macadamia oil instead of the butter and it turns out lovely and moist and light. Today however I used butter but the cake came out quite dense....very much like a brownie...does anyone know why this may have happened?
Mum to 5 gorgeous kids, 3 bio aged 22,20 and 15, and 2 adopted aged 7 and 2.

You possibly overworked the cake batter Jenni.I keep a watchful eye on the batter and immediately stop it when it's incorporated.

I'm not sure Jenny. I've always used brown sugar and butter. Mine always turn out moist and light. My butter is always straight from the fridge too.
