Gretchen a quick question for you since you are a nurse:

My son 15 keeps getting stomach tightening pain hard to describe have had blood tests nothing, so I though it must be food related. Had an allergy test and he was allergic to mainly nuts and soy.

So my question is as soy is in nearly everything does it build up in your system or does it get out. He has been healthy all term and this week has had two days off. Just wondering how the body works eg if he has a small amount of soy will that get out or build up and then make him sick

Yvette I am so sorry your boy keeps getting stomach cramps. I know absolutely nothing about  allergies nor nutrition but if you think it is food related you may want to consult a nutritionist. I would start a diary and see just when the cramping starts.ie: after certain foods. Or time of day .

If it is peristalsis  type wave pains then maybe he is not chewing his food properly making the digestive system work even harder causing these pains.

On the other hand , having experience with 15 year old boys it could be an emotional reaction the what is going on in his environment.

In any case if you are really worried and the pains do not abate then you may need a peadeatric consult.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Gert it only ever happens in the mornings it is not a bad pain like rolling on the floor in pain. I have been keeping an eye on his food intake and there doesn't seem to be a link with the foods he has eaten. I am going to cut out processed foods chips, twisties etc and do some more home baking and see it that works.

Is it every day or only some days?  Talk to him about (OMG MOTHER) bowels!!  If it is on school days only  there might  be something there.

No not every day Gert just two days this term and not just week days. His bowels are fine and very regular. It has been going on since last year on and off. He is a very easy going boy and not a stress head so he is not worried or anxious about anything, has a great group of friends. He will also talk to me about anything so nothing is worrying him as I have had many talks with him. Just an annoying thing. It normally starts to get better throughout the day. That's why I think it could be food related as he is not the sort to fake it and enjoys school

my ds13 was feeling sick in the stomach ,eventually  l worked out that it was the cereal he ate combined with normal milk  the 2 together were making him sick.
so now l never buy uncle toby antioxidant  plus berry one(its in a purple box ) .
he can still drink normal milk but l generally buy him the a2 milk and he does not feel sick any more

Nazr glad you worked out what it was, it is so frustrating not knowing what it is. As I have said it doesn't happen that often just annoying when they have to miss school. When we were on holidays in Adelaide at Easter it also happened a couple of times then too.

I guess the thing to do is an elimination diet then.  My daughter has Crohns disease, has had part of her bowel removed so is very careful with her diet. The things that  send her bowel into spasms are too many carbs. That might be a good way to start by eliminating all carbs then adding them back one at a time.

You know your boy best so trust your  instincts. I would start with the morning foods.  Try high protein . In any case young lads need a lot of protein.  Cut out the cereal and toast first.  I think you have to give it a good test  not just a few days or week but maybe three weeks at a time. It may take a long time to figure it out but obviously something is causing it in the food line.
