Need some easy recipes to get started!
« on: January 14, 2012, 03:24:46 am »
Hello

I am having my Thermomix delivered next week. I need some easy, foolproof family dinners to get started with. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Fi. My suggestion is to make some Vegetable stock first then you will be able to whip up soups and risottos for your family ever so easy. Sorbets are wonderful for this time of the year.
Have a look through the forum and perhaps print off some of the recipes you would like to try and make sure you have the ingredients for them. Perhaps even make some bread or rolls to go with your soup. They are ever so easy with the TMX.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Definitely make the vegie stock - I add it to everything!!  Well... not sweet stuff, but if I could, I would!  It's definitely my secret ingredient.

Custard is easy and will be a winner with your family.  Most people I know use less than the 40g of cornflour in the cookbook (I use 20g)

This recipe from Jo is awesome - makes heaps, is delicious, uses the Varoma and really teaches you loads of different things.  Just make sure you leave space in the middle of the 2 varoma dishes so that steam can circulate - http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2011/01/chicken-and-cashews-with-coconut-satay.html

have fun!

Hi FeeBee, welcome to the forum.  You can't go wrong checking out knittercook's suggestions, CP's favourite list so far is a beauty. Here's another thread with some ideas for beginners. Here's a thread with what people cooked for their first meal. By the time you read all these threads, your TMX will have arrived and you will have a list of recipes at the ready to get you started.

Hi Feebee.  Welcome to the forum.  Working through all the above suggestions should keep you well and truly occupied until your TMX arrives.  Personally, I really love Greenies link to Quirky Jo's cashew and chicken recipe.  It is so easy and tasty.

I have found that the thing you need to concentrate on most is being organised.  Prepare and pre- measure all the ingredients BEFORE you start cooking as everything moves so fast you can easily find yourself running out of time when the next ingredient needs to be added to the jug.

Most of all, have fun.

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone - I didn't realise there had been any replies? (must figure out how the forum works!).

Have had Thermie 2 weeks now, the family is loving spaghetti bol, risottos and sorbet, and I am addicted to my daily breakfast smoothies! A naturopath friend suggested I hide some spinach leaves in a fruit smoothie and the kids would never know - she was right, especially if you include blueberries!
