salad suggestions?
« on: December 03, 2011, 02:07:19 am »
I havent made one in the beast yet but we are having a barby tonight and I need to get a couple of salads made.

Are there any good ones in the EDC or can anybody recommend anything from the list on here?  friends are bringing the usual salads so I am looking for something a bit different.

Thanks in advance.  ;D

The Beetroot Salad in the EDC is good, quick and easy.
Colslaw from EDC is also good
2 second salad from this forum is great after making mayo and you can't have a BBQ without TMX mayo!
Enjoy

I made the beetroot and the carrot salad for today's visitors and they were a huge hit.

I also made JulieO's lovely Curried Pasta Salad.

I love this high protein salad:

You might also want to check the up-market beetroot salad in IN THE MIX.  It has pomegranates.

tabouleh flavored with orange juice and zest. served with toasted almonds, peaches, dried apricot, basilica, rucola, olive oil and balsamico vinegar.

I have put this recipe into a thread of it's own in Salads.

BLuesed that tabouleh sounds lovely, do you have a recipe or just add the extra ingredients to taste? Can someone pm me the carrot salad recipe please?

Here's the carrot salad Wonder.
When I first made it, I didn't like it as I felt there was too much lemon juice in it (maybe my lemon was ultra juicy) so next morning I added 3/4 tablespoon icing sugar to it and that improved it.  By lunchtime, I had changed my mind about the salad and compliments were forthcoming from my guests too. I would definitely make this one the day beforehand. With the colours of the beetroot salad, this carrot salad and the greens of the tossed salad, they all thought it was wonderfully Christmasy.

Judy, this looks like a really lovely version of tabbouleh.  Are you able to transfer this recipe into the salads section in a thread of its own?

Can the beetroot salad be made the day before too JD? I am making the salads for Christmas evening (3 salads) and they all need to be prepared the day before.

What 3 salads would other people take? Perhaps one should be leafy green?  ???

The salad was fine the next day Chelsea, make it late the day beforehand.  You definitely need a green salad and I loved JulieO's curried pasta salad too.  I steamed 2 bunches of asparagus and made devilled eggs which looked nice on the one plate but unfortunately I forgot to put it out on the day  :-))
