Hello from another Gold Coaster
« on: October 11, 2011, 01:11:13 am »
Hello, bought my thermo about two months ago in the UK and dragged it across the globe a couple of weeks ago  :)

Now I need to prove to the husband that it really will save us money on groceries or marital strife will begin...!! I'm having huge problems making bread in Aus, in the UK it was perfect every time. Any tips would be hugely appreciated as I really need to produce an edible loaf by teatime tonight lol

Thanks  ;D

Nikki

Hi Nikki, welcome to the forum and as it seems to Oz. There are some great bread recipes on here that people have a lot of success with, i don't make much at the moment so will leave it up to someone else to direct you to the best recipe.

Welcome Yogamum!  The main thing is to have a good flour, then you can experiment- plenty of good recipes on this forum  :).  Which brand do you use?  I like using Laucke crusty white bread mix for most of my breads.

I have a big sack of Wallaby unbleached bakers flour, would like to mix it in with wholemeal but I can't seem to find any bakers grade flours other than the wallaby white?

I've just been reading some threads in the bread forum and will give the zing zong or whatever it was starter a go when I get home.  :)

yep the Tang Zhong starter. Chookie may be able to point you in the right direction for the flour.

Hi Nikki, welcome to the forum.  Obviously flours are different in different countries but just settle for making a good white loaf first then start experimenting with other recipes you see on the forum.

Welcome Nikki. You might want to try one of Isi's recipes too. Isi's very normal bread is a good one.

Welcome to the forum.  Did you drag Thermie over as hand luggage or did you send him in a container?  I would worry about him travelling by sea.  The piano and the Thermomix are my most favourite things!

I packed it back up in it's original box and it went in the hold as one of our items of luggage. Don't put it on a container, how will you cope without it for three months?! Unless you're flying Ryanair, in which case it'll be cheaper to charter the thermo it's own private jet than pay for potential excess baggage haha...we had no excess to pay btw and were flying as a family of five with baby equipment, pram an bulging suitcases!

I'm staying home after today's school run to give the bread another go. Isi's and the one with the starter. Wish me luck!
