Uni, that one I think is the one that pops up when the pressure has built up, the little pin should pop up, then a few seconds later the other one will start making a noise, that is when I lower the heat to keep that one just with a little steam coming out for the required time.

Uni, just had another look at the photo.  It appears there is a hole on the side of it, is that right?  If so, I would think that would be where steam would come out first and then there is probably a valve that shuts it off and then the other one starts rocking or making a noise to let you know it has built up pressure. If the top of that one on the left is solid with out a pin then it won't pop up.  I thought there was a pin on the left one and on my old one that used to pop up and shut off the steam just before the pressure valve started rocking.  After you have lowered the heat and the time for cooking has finished.  If you turn of the heat it will loose the pressure itself, but if you have a release method, once all the pressure is out it should allow you to take the lid off with out any problem, although the stew  etc will still be boiling, so be carfeul.  Normally you cannot get the lid off if there is pressure still in the pot.  Some books recommend puting the pot in sink and running cold water over which lowers the pressure quickly. Some others have a release button where you can let the steam go quickly.   If you have had your cooker for many years, even though it has not been used I would check the seal and any rubber rings etc in it.  They will perish over time. I am not trying to scare you but I know from experience that being a new one does not stop the seals etc. perishing.  Hoping this helps

Morning ladies.  Good luck with your PC Uni, I also thought you had just bought it.  Please be careful, it sounds like the one we were all so frightened of many years ago.

I think Judy's right, Uni . . . would you consider getting a "new and improved" model?  Might save a lot of frustration and possible injury!  I still have visions of that monster sitting and hissing and carrying on on Mum's stove . .  ;D ;D ;D

Hiya everyone.
Agree with above from Marie Uni, you may need a new seal or gasket. I know I do on my one..... It just about works though at the moment. Not sure I can get one and it is only 2001 model so not that old.
A quick way to release steam in these old models is to put in sink, turn on cold tap and let it run over the pan to fast cool it. It works a treat.

Hope today is better Frozzie xx

DJ has a point there, getting spare parts for old machines is not easy - hopefully the seal is a universal one.
