Thanks for that, Uni, I'm sorely tempted to make this a winter evening pass time.  Hope you have a great day.

Uni they look great. I wish I could crotchet. Must learn or ask some of my elder crafty ladies to make me some.

Crochet is easy - I taught myself just using books.  I'm not a neat crocheter by any means, but it's good fun, it's easy and, best of all, anything you crochet 'grows' more quickly than knitting as the rows are wider.

Amy my DS had costochrondritis badly 10 yrs ago.
It was agony. A tens machine helped.
We eventually worked out his  was caused by uneven growth spurts. He ended up at 6'2"
and as the saying goes he grew out of it!

Oh... well, I've been having severe chest pains since April. Sometimes I feel like I'm having a heart attack and breathing gets really painful. I also get stitches very easily when I'm running. It is very painful, I can sympathise with your DH :(
What is a tens machine? I was on anti-inflammatory tablets but I took two packets and they didn't help, so my doctor didn't prescribe me any more. I had a chest x-ray last week to rule out any structural problems, and I haven't heard from my doctor so I'm assuming they came back clear. I'm getting desperate for answers and a cure!
I'm only 5'7" and my growth spurts were quite steady. I think I caused myself this problem at the gym, and then it was worsened from having chiropractic treatment :-[

Amy a TENS machine is one of these http://www.tensmachine.com.au/

Very good for pain relief for bad backs, knees or ribs. A good physiotherapist, or yout Dr should be able to help you locate where best to put the patches. I'm sorry I don't remember with DS's ribs. Some one else on here might know.

If you have damaged or inflamed the cartilage in between the ribs it will be sore, and could be slow to heal on account of the fact that cartilage and ligaments have a poor blood supply. 3 months is usual for ligament healing.

I occasionally use the TENS if my back is bad.

Can you buy Voltarol over the counter in Australia? It is low dose Diclofenac and can be useful for short term pain relief.  I take it for my knee sometimes. the Dr prescribes 50mg, but these are just 12.5mg and I take 2. When we were on holiday my left knee flared up and I just took 2'days of Voltarol from the chemist and had a couple of slower days (like not doing all the steps at the castles) and was fine.
Some people get on well with the gel. But if you use gel you can't take any any anti-inflammatories  by mouth too.
Try arnica too.

I am not medically trained but over the years the family have had a lot of  things happen and I have learnt a lot.

Some people in terrible pain respond well to alternative therapy like Acupuncture, or reflexology.
Sometimes that is worth a go, but I know it is not cheap.

I hope it settles soon. Take care Amy.

Yes, I hope you find relief soon, Amy.

If there's anyone that loves to crochet, I'd love to buy a few of these in different colours.

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
