Did you remember to rinse the rice first? It's the only thing I can think of.

I never rinse my brown rice and I've never had an issue.  I think it's only certain types of white rice that needs it.

I regularly cook brown rice and love it so much when cooked in the tmx.  I usually put 1 litre of water in the bowl, then put the basket in and then about 1.5 cups rice.  Cook for 40 minutes, varoma temp, speed 4.  Can't remember what brand I use, but I've used a couple of different brands that I just pick up in the rice section at the supermarket.  I've never had a problem.

I have no idea, but could it be that the stock has a higher boiling temp?

The other option is to soak it beforehand as it will then cook quicker.

Yes, I would be very keen in being held accountable here.  My actual meals are healthy, I'm just a terrible snacker and always seem to find an excuse not to exercise!

Dizzygirl, was it you that posted about the baked bean cup thingos in the lunch thread?  I think that would be a great toddler recipe.

Bascially just think of anything that you might serve at a kids party or something your own kids enjoy (or enjoyed, if your kids are older)

Oh dear, must stop giving help to others otherwise I'll never win!  :D

don't forget it's for toddlers as well as babies.  Up to 5 years they've said.  I'm thinking along the lines of things that you can hide vegies in!

Introduce Yourself / Re: Supplies - Where?

I don't use bakers flour, I just use plain wholemeal flour.  I actually buy mine in a 12.5 kg bag from a wholesale distributor where I live, so can't help with online, but I would say most places would have something similar.

yep, that's the one, thanks! (although, there's a .au in there as well)

There are a grand total of 7 dishes in there at the moment!  I can see why they're doing a comp to get some more recipes in there!

I think I'll give this a go!  Just gotta go through and do a proper conversion rather than just me usual estimation!

I went to go check out the 'baby and toddler food' section to see what's already there and I can't actually see that section at all.  Am I missing something?

I think we can all agree that blatant advertising by a distributor of another product is not on.  Most forums that I am a part of ban any sort of advertising by someone who would benefit from it.  But forum members discussing their thoughts and findings on another product should not be censored, which is what is happening here.

I agree Gert, this is rediculous!  This is censorship gone mad and makes me think poorly about the thermomix brand.

If I was a potential new customer and came here wanting info to compare the tmx, chef, hotpro and then found out I couldn't discuss 2 of them, it would really put me off the tmx

Chit Chat / Seeds sticking onto bread - how to?
« on: July 08, 2012, 07:51:58 am »
I made focaccia bread the other day and wanted to put some seseame seeds on top.  So I brushed some olive oil on top and sprinkled the sesame seeds on.  But when I went to cut and eat it, pretty much all of them fell off!

So is there a special method for getting seeds to stick on top of breads?  Please share your secret!  :)

Chit Chat / Re: Coconut Oil - How do I use it?!
« on: July 08, 2012, 03:59:48 am »
I guess I'm thinking about if I substitute it for say, macadamia oil, in a cake recipe or whatnot.  Because it's solid I can't just pour it out of the bottle, so wasn't sure whether I should just scoop the solid oil out or whether I should liquify it and then pour.

As for the vegan thing, sometimes it's just easier to say a certain label to people than to have to explain all the ins and outs of what you eat and what you don't eat and why.  Most people understand vegan and vegetarian, but not all the lacto ovo etc etc.

For example, 99% of my diet is vegetarian, however sometimes when I'm out and there's no good vego choice, I'll have fish or chicken.  But I tell people I'm vegetarian because it's just easier that way, otherwise it turns into an essay!

Chit Chat / Coconut Oil - How do I use it?!
« on: July 08, 2012, 02:19:43 am »
So, I finally found myself some coconut oil which I've been dying to get for a while now.  I have a question though.  Because it's hard (cold pressed), how do I use it?  Do I just scoop it out hard, or do I have to heat the whole bottle to liquify it each time I want to use it?

I find the easiest thing to do is just make a bit extra dinner and the leftovers can be taken for lunch.  I loved taking leftovers when I was at school and love it now for work.
