Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. The boss of the company turned up today and has got the A/C working. He is sending out a specialist on Thursday. He thinks not enough air was flowing through the system and the coils were freezing up and therefore shutting down the system. We didn’t use the’ Cancer card ‘ to put pressure on the company, but it was obvious to him as he checked out all the settings that there were serious issues going on here. You cannot believe the relief we are feeling. I think I will contact the Ballarat Council and see if some sort of emergency program can be set up for the holidays. The Dentists have a system where there are Dentists available.

Trying to get someone/ anyone to look at our A/C. Drove down town to the head office of the A/C firm responsible as they weren’t toking phone calls. Said they don’t work with our builder. Gave us a phone number. He isn’t licensed to work on A/C only heating. And on and on it goes. We are in for a week of hot weather. DD wants us to go to her house. Ral doesn’t want to go. I understand this as it requires organising so much stuff. Think I might just go and buy 2 portable A/C units for our bedrooms. Any ideas ?

Marina, let us know how the Cherry cake turns out. Sounds interesting. Yesterday made Raspberry and Nectarine jam in TMX. Although the recipe only makes a small quantity it cooks while doing other things. I use my Strawberry Conserve recipe as a guide . Also made yogurt . Had about a cup left over that wouldn’t fit into container. Set it in the oven with the light on. Would love to do some baking but too hot.

Our new house has turf nature strip. As we are on a corner it has 3 parts. With the hot weather, it has started to die back. We bought a new sprinkler but it only does a bit at a time. Our neighbour, our GP, came in and asked if he could set up an auto watering system for us. He spent yesterday afternoon setting up the system. It’s wonderful as it has a timer.

KAtie good to hear that they got the Canola finished. Love the look of those yellow paddocks. Ral saw specialist yesterday. As Ral is tolerating the new drug, the Dr is hopeful that the cancer is being contained. Blood test every 2 weeks and hospital infusion , once a month. Warned us that this will not go on for ever. We will take what we can and enjoy it.

Looks like a sourdough texture !
Yes KAtie, but much lighter. I love this bread and amazed at how it rises in the oven. Ral not so keen on it. I’m going to make it again but make 2 balls, football shape. I’m learning a lot about my new ovens. Need to leave 3 1/2 hours for the full process. The Euro oven has a well in the base where water can be placed , for steam. Not as good as Meile but not bad.

I haven’t lost any clothing but Ral has lost 2 pairs of shorts. No idea where they are. Yesterday I did a big shop at Aldi. They were reducing the prices on lots of stuff leftover from Xmas. Best bargain was a huge Turkey breast. Cooked. No way we could eat it all but rang DD and she was happy to take 1/2. I’m a bit suspicious of commercially cook meat but this was very nice. Also bought 5 boxes of strawberries and made 2 lots of Strawberry Conserve. These were better quality than the previous ones. Enough strawberries left over to try Strawberry Fluff. $2.50 a box of 250g.

Judy, great to see you keep trying different recipes. The Asian type sauce made enough for 4 serves. I intend to use the leftover on veggies. Cookie, they sound interesting. Turkey and mushroom cottage pie tonight. Will make 4 serves and have the other 2 tomorrow, as it’s heating up again for the next few days. More mango fluff trifle. Can’t drink the grog but can certainly eat it.

Oh Mab , how lovely to have some home grown veggies. Tried new recipe yesterday. Chicken cubes , dusted with cornflour spray with little oil, and cooked in AF. When cooked, covered in a Chinese type sauce. Judy, you may like this as an alternative to cheese and tomato sauces.

Cookie, I have just made that Portuguese bread. It’s amazing. Naughty naughty, I cut while still hot. Good french butter and homemade Strawberry Conserve. This is a loaf for those who love crusty bread with lots of holes. That’s me!

Marina, I feel for you. Horrible job but feels good when done. I’m really pixxxx off. Went for blood test yesterday and I’m now covered in bruises. Never going to that place again. No action on A/C until next week. One hot day coming up.

Marina, interesting. Good as you can use up those extra veggies in the fridge. Looking for inspiration.

Yummy Cookie. Will try. Lazy and handy potatoes. I microwave medium size potatoes , in a covered dish with a little water, until cooked. Keep them in the fridge and when needed grab a couple. Good for cutting into chips, potato salad , smashed pots in AF roast pots etc.
