Yes you can pay for apps with PayPal, but we prefer to use pre-paid gift cards for budgeting.
So, we fill our account with 2 $50 iTunes gift cards and then we can't overspend.

A friends child spent $180 in one night on apps. Ouch. So the prepaid cards prevent that from happening. :)

I use my iPad in the kitchen every day, but most of that use comes from this forum, Quirky Cooking blog, and the SuperKitchenMachine blog. I do have paid apps, but I don't use them much.

Cookie1 - iPads are so useful. We use them for recipes, reading, watching movies, playing games, and communicating with family via Skype. Go for it! :)

Lovely ladies that have received an ipad for Christmas or already have one: do you need to have a virus protector with your ipad?
DD is working on me to go shares with her in one. I guess I could use it during the day and she could use it at night.
I have my netbook but it is so slow on the internet as it uses dial up.
Thanks in advance.

I do not have a virus protector on my iPad so  do not know about that.

Do not even think about sharing it. Just won' t happen . Not possible. Can't be done. Do not even look at my iPad.  Nope not sharing. Don' t touch it. You will come to harm of you try. There will be tears.  IPad envy is a curse.  LOL!

Seriously  you really do need your own as you will have totally different uses for  it and believe me once you have it in your hands your DD will have no hope at  all of prying it from you.

I told you not to look a it.  :D

Thank you all your messages gave me a chuckle. I have the feeling the ipad will be like our ereaders. We ended up with one each very soon after buying the first one. We're going looking tomorrow as DD has tomorrow off too.

DD bought hers this morning. 3G and wifi. I think I will play with it when she is at work and then for my birthday get one. She has put a pre paid sim card in it which is what I'll do.

Great news Cookie.  Here I am sitting in an apartment in Hobart, talking to you on my IPad.  Mine is an iPad 1, the early model, but with all the things you mention.  The Hotel charges $6 an hour to use their facility.  It is whizz bang.  The only thing it doesn't do is heat , mince and go in reverse  ;D

Love it.
Are you going to watch some of the yachts come in at Constitution Dock?

Hi Chookie, nice to see you have settled in for you holiday there in Tassie.  Gee that is an expensive charge from your accommodation - $6 an hour.  I paid $4 a day up at Tanunda to connect to their wi-fi  :o

Cookie, we are right on Constitution Dock.  same apartment the last 3 years.  Will take a photo once the yachts start arriving.  Up at 4.30am, to drive to airport. Bit tired .  Going to meet with Cecilia.  Looking forward to this.  DH mad about the yachts, but Taste of Tasmania is on the next wharf and this is where I will spend part of each day.  This is a beautiful city, reminds us of Bergen in Norway.

That is outrageous.  You might be better off buying a Telstra data card for the iPad for $30 for 30 days. Most everywhere in the world you can hook in to free wi fi in a bar or restaurant or shopping place but not in Au. I finally got so pissed off  I bought  a sim card for  $ 150 for 12 months with 12 GB but i still search for free wi fi just for fun.

Enjoy the revelry in Hobart chookie.
