Congratulations to Australia for the Gold Medal
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:51:11 pm »
in Women's Snowboard Halfpipe.

A great win!  Torah Bright breaks the American dominance of Halfpipe Gold!   One doesn't think of Australia as a hotbed of winter sports but obviously there are many dedicated athletes and certainly wildly appreciative fans and more than a few doing the cheering were waving both Australian and American flags.

Congratulations!

Doh!!!  I better watch some of the games then.  Well done Torah Bright!!

Although Australia is not a hot bed of winter sports it is a hot bed of talent  ;)

It's a credit to her as we really are not known for our winter sports athleticism. Well done.

She certainly made it look easy.  I wouldn't even be able to stand up with a snowboard I'm sure. They are all so brave.  :)

Yup andiesenji it is funny to think of Australia as having snow sports but someone told me once that we have the most extensive snow fields in the worldbut a very short season and no real mountains to speak of.

One of my friends, who lived in Victoria (Mt. Dandenong), used to spend three months every year skiing in New Zealand.  Nine years ago she moved to Norway (new husband from there, met in New Zealand) and says she is in heaven.

Yes!  Lydia Lassila really flew.  Absolutely amazing.  and with Jacqui Cooper fifth and Elizabeth Gardner, Australia made a very strong showing.  The three Americans didn't earn any medals but ranked 9, 10 and 11 so at least were in the finals.
