Easter / Re: Chookies' Hot Cross Buns
« on: March 29, 2013, 11:19:40 pm »
I'm going to make these today. One batch to take out tonight for supper and one batch to take for breakfast to my mums in the morning. For the morning ones I will put them in fridge once formed and then they can come back to temp while we drive to mum's place. Then they will be freshly baked.

Can I double the recipe in one go or will i need to make multiple batches?

My DH made Fig Bars (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4355) today and mistook cardamom pods in the cupboard for the pepitas. The flavour is good but the one piece I have had so far had three full pods in, so the experience of eating them wasn't great. He is really disappointed as he did twice the amount and used all the fresh figs we were given. One cranky DH.
, lots of not so edible fig bars.

Just finished our first batch in a THX milkshake, so have restocked the fridge with a freshest batch. Yum!

I've recently read The Descendants, The Thief Lord (for young teens), The Secrets Between Us, and The Life of Pi. Enjoyed them all. Currently reading Wool, which will be followed by A Discovery of Witches.

Thanks to those who recommended Jack Reacher - hubby very much enjoying his Christmas present of the 1st four.

Is there anything I could replace the egg white with? Was hoping to make this to take out but friend is allergic to eggs.

I just kept folding and mixing (even beating for a few seconds with the spatula  :-))) Kerryn until it was all incorporated.  I wasn't game to use the Thermomix to mix it in though - I wonder if it could be mixed that way.

I was too scared to put back into Thermie too. I think nexty time (which there will be for sure) I will add and mix in batches.

How would this go as cupcakes? My DS11 has a cake stall and someone has asked for gluten free, but most I can see have nuts too which we can't have at school. I have m,ace the magic bean cakes and they were good too, so if this won't work as cupcakes that will be the fall back.

Made this for guests last night and tasted great. Unfortunately it looked a bit lumpy, as the cream didn't fold in completely - I even tried squashing the lumps of cream between two spatulas. Maybe I should have folded it in in batches?

It didn't affect the taste though. Very lemony - just the way we like it.

Made these for my DS birthday today, for family friend who is GF. DS11 thought they were a bit grainy but I thought they were yummy! They are in the freezer atm as our family friend is no longer coming... but will be a good thing to take to work for my GF workmate.

Thanks for the recipe.

Soups / Re: Curried Pumpkin and Lentil Soup
« on: February 02, 2013, 01:53:58 am »
I want to make this for my mum for lunch tomorrow as she is only able to eat soup following an operation recently. The soup must be very smooth, so for those who have made it before, can you please advise if this is the case or if I should follow CornishCream's method and grind up the lentils first to be sure?
Thanks.

This ice-cream was delicious! We just finished it last night. Will definitely make this one again. I may have gone a little overboard on the vanilla paste though, so I might reduce that a little next time.

My DS7 wants me to express how much he enjoyed the ice-cream like this:

I heartily agree! The condensed milk is delish! I was licking the lid, and scraping strawberries along it too! My ice-cream is in the freezer now, having churned, while I wait for the toffee apple pudding to finish cooking.

I was hoping to make this for tonight. Is it really necessary to have in the fridge overnight before churning in ice-cream machine?

Thanks for your advice Gert. My stuffing ended up looking much like Amy's so fingers crossed it will taste good. Good to know that I can just bake the extra if it doesn't fit in the bird too.
