Hello all,
well we are trying to decide on a name for our upcoming arrival, have a boys name sorted (if we need it), but can't think of a girls name we both like! So any suggestions will be much appreciated! :D
We must have used all the pretty names for girls already... ;)
-
What about Jenny lol
What are your other girls names?
-
I like Elly astarra.
-
These are names that I like... :D :D :D
Zelda
Sasha
Amelia
Samantha
Jenna (close to Jenny! ;D)
-
Well cp was going to be
Nikita, our surname is a russian name
So she was going to be Nikita Anastacia followed by our surname.
Cp fhinks this is really funny ;D
I also like
Phoebe
:)
-
Astarra we need to know the other girls names so we can think of something suitable :)
-
My girls have German/Scandinavian names (depending on who you talk to lol) as their surname is German. I can imagine you with a Lily or Rose - or do you already have one of those? 😉
-
My DD is Monique and I really like it but I would love Audrey or Olivia.
Good luck.
-
I have a Chantelle
and I like Olivia
alot of older names are making a comeback..
-

No I don't, tho one was going to have Rose as a middle name.
We have a Saskia which is apparently Scandinavian - or Dutch! :)
-
Georgia Rose
-
I have trouble with names as I always relate them to a child I taught with that name.
I do like Suzanne.
Of course Jean is a very beautiful name. :D ;D ;D ;D. I like Jenny and Jane too.
-
I love the name Elena. I think its properly pronounced uh-lena
-
My girls are Elke & Annika, I'm told they're popular Dutch names as well. Love the name Saskia, I must have a thing for names with 'k' in them!
-
How do you pronounce Elke? :)
-
I have always loved the name Eilidh (pronounced A (as in hay) lee). It translates as Helen.
As Robyn says, lots of the 'older' names are coming back. I also like Jean and Edith but also Sienna.
-
A girl that I used to know called Elke pronounced her name as "Elle" -"key"
I had a great aunt called Zita, which is a name I love, and another called Ruby.
I also like Siobhan (PRONUNCIATION: shiv + awn”), however, i told my mother that I liked it when i was pregnant, but she didnt want me to use it (I didn"t) as it is difficult to spell.
-
And pronounce too ES - I would have said sy o ban :-))
-
I love Harriet which is Lily's middle name it would of been her first name but mil wasn't fond of it, although it was her mum's name ::)
i love Stella too
good luck picking the perfect name when dd20 was born I was calling her Madison the whole time but when she was born and so tiny 2.5 kg I thought it too big a name so called her Abby instead;D
-
Stella, I like that name too Suzanne :)

I worked in a child care centre for a while and once of the carers was called Siobhan. The poor kids had no idea how to say it when they saw it on her badge :D
-
Our DD is Petra which is apparently Russian too (unintentionally) - and so is our boy, Anton. They just happened to be the ones we could agree on (DH wanted Dalton for DS, but all I could think of was Royal Daulton :D )
Other girls' names we talked about were Isabelle, Lily.
I quite liked some of our grandparents' names too - DH's Nana was Zena, and my Gran was Aileen. A little old fashioned but quite special.
-
How do you pronounce Elke? :)
The Europeans pronounce it "ellkuh" with a short "e" on the end iykwim. But we pronounce it El-kee.
-
If I had a little girl she would be Willow Rose. I just love the name.
-
Think of the spelling too, otherwise the Child will have to spell her name out so often, for years.
-
I wonder if that's why my mum called me Amy, maybe she thought I would be really bad at spelling :D
-
Amy that is funny.
OOOH I have been chatting alot. :)
-
These arethe ones I like.
Amber
Rose
Emma
Mikayla
Louise
Georgia
Didn't use any of them for our daughter :D
-
I love the name Eden
-
If I had a little girl she would be Willow Rose. I just love the name.
That is a lovely name.
I remember asking my DH's cousin who is Croatian what would be a nice girls name to go with ours and she said Snezana (pronounced Snesh - in - ah). I said "yuk, thats horrible!". Found out later that it was her name - but she goes by the name of Susan :-\ (foot in mouth)
-
I was going to say my name, but I am not a good girl ;)
I love Ailie Rose and was this close to chosing it for DD but DH wouldn't come to it
-
:o LOL CP - that is hilarious!!! Must admit I don't like the name either tho!
Sneeze - in - her was all I could think of!!! ;D
-
I taught a lass called Siobhan. By the time I had learned to pronounce it she could write it.
My paternal Grandmother's name was Harriett.
-
I was going to say my name, but I am not a good girl ;)
LOL fruity ;D
-
It's funny when you know someone by a mentioned name and you think whether you, like them. I have polish neighbours and I,love hearing Basia call her daughter , Natty Natty, , Natalia getting louder each time, but I like Natalia, I like Shiloh , I like lots of names, pick a few then decide when she is born.
-
My girl name for both pregnancies was Caitlyn. Still love it, but all boys in this house.
-
I share my office at work with a lady named Siobhan. She hates it, no-one can pronounce it and no-one can ever spell it correctly either. She wished her parents gave her a plain name like Jane.
I think Olivia is a nice name.
-
thought of another Chloe very pretty name I could imagine your work colleague getting frustrated I have enough with mine people always write Susan ::)
-
Evie is a very popular choice here in the UK at the moment. :) I know three little girls with the name ;)
-
Only boys in this house but for number 2 we had chosen Eden or Niamh (another Irish one - pronounced Neev) - we have a long Irish surname.
As for other girls names I like - Estelle, Lucia, Zoe, and Ava
-
I was going to say my name, but I am not a good girl ;)
Chastity?
-
I was going to say my name, but I am not a good girl ;)
Chastity?
LOL! Or Angel!! ;D :D
-
I had a friend whose name was Charity ;D ;D
-
I taught a Summer and also a Philadelphia.
-
Normal names
normal spellings
or the kid will end up hating you, because they have to say it, over and over again ???
Continue to spell the name forever. >:(
to the people who cant hear, listen, spell properly.
My sister does school photos, and kids hate names not spelled properly...
so I chose easy names, that were easy to spell. :-* :-*
-
One of my upholstery buddies says that her GD goes to nursery with a "Disco" and she has a baby brother called "Soul" :-X
-
You've got to be kidding CC... :o
I taught a Summer and also a Philadelphia.
I've heard Philadelphia too Cookie... shortened, of course, to Philly :-)) Cheesecake anyone? ;D
-
You really have to feel sorry for the children.... Can you just imagine the teasing ...... :(
-

If only I was Amy.I was dumbfounded when my friend told me.Poor kids.
-
There are laws that say children can't be called things like "Satan" or any derogatory names, so why can't there be a law against plain old stupid names? :-))
-
somebody tried recently to call their baby Hash tag couldn't believe it
-
At my girls' daycare there was a baby called Lucifer, I kid you not. Lots of weird names around here, don't get me started!
Just remembered another one - my grandmother was called Maisie; although that mouse has kind of killed the name for me now.
-
I am old fashioned and traditional when it comes to names.
Not n any order.
Molly
Mary
Lucy
Victoria
Sarah
Rose
Polly
Hannah
Judy
Catherine
Iris
Valerie
Are a few for you to look at.
HOpe you are keeping well?

Oh yes, I know a foster chid called Bullet & a girl called Destiny.
-
Charlotte is popular atm
-
I also like Niamh :-))
I would have like to have called my DD Chloe or Claire, but they didn't go with our surname. Another favourite was Portia, but we had already used that for our cat >:(
-
:D :D :D
My DD1 has a dog named Fletcher and yes, you know what my darling little GS is called ;D When he met the dog for the first time in Melbourne he was only 2. Another dog came into the room and he said 'Amber' LOL Guess it was only fair for both of them to be named after their Aunty Sue's beagles.
-
I have an Olivia and an Elora. Other girl's names I like are Grace, Scarlett, Hannah, Sage and Asha (it means hope).
DH is hoping that we won't need the girls names though!
-
When is your bub due PT? :)
The wierdest name i heard was Kenya - fine in itself, but their sirname is Waite....... :-\
Another child I know is Wyatt Lions.... :-\
-

;D ;D ;D
There are some names that I think are really nice until I meet someone horrible who has that name. Then I don't like the name anymore :-))
-
When we were choosing names for our kids we saw a Chardonnay Jazz. Hmmm you know what they liked don't you?
And Lily White - really? You have to put all the names together - first and last and make sure they don't make up something silly I think.
-
One of my upholstery buddies says that her GD goes to nursery with a "Disco" and she has a baby brother called "Soul" :-X
That is unbelievable CC, poor children.
Marie
-
I like Molly
Grace
Emme
My DD is Asha Paige
-
Lovely name Katie :D
I also like Adrianna or Jordina :)
-
I love Harriet which is Lily's middle name it would of been her first name but mil wasn't fond of it, although it was her mum's name ::)
i love Stella too
good luck picking the perfect name when dd20 was born I was calling her Madison the whole time but when she was born and so tiny 2.5 kg I thought it too big a name so called her Abby instead;D
Suzanne - my gorgeous 7yo daughter is called Harriet so it is of course my favourite girls name.
I love old fashioned names like Ivy, Lilian, Violet (anyone seeing a pattern here LOL) and Miriam.
-
You also need to make sure that the middle name doesn't start with a vowel as it can then make words with the initials and the child is called that. Eg Richard Albert Bones could be nicknamed RAB.
-
Thats a good point Cookie. I once read a book about an overweight girl whose initials were HAM :-[
-
I am not keen on a lot of boy's names beginning with B so I asked SIL to please not call their little boy a B name. No problems said SIL, his initial would be BO so no way is B in the mix.
-
My Great Grandmother's name was Bronslava but she was called Bertha. I wouldn't recommend either name. ;) ;D
On of my Grandmothers was Agnes. An old fashioned name but I like it.
-
Whenever I hear that name "Agnes" I think of Agnes Brown :D :D :D
I like the old-fashioned Isobel :) And Lillian is a nice name too. I had great-aunts by both of those names. Elsie was another, and so was Joyce :)
-
Bridget
Kathleen
Mary
Sarah
Penelope (Penny)
All a bit Irish really.
-

I worked with a man whose name was Richard (call me Dick) Hunter. ;) ;D
-

-

Hilarious. That just made me LOL!!!
There is a weather presenter in UK (I think he does the weather for Portsmouth/Southampton region) called Chris Peacock. Don't say it too fast!!!!!
-
:D :D :D :D That is funny
-

Plus think how the christian and surnames sound together....eg
years ago I knew someone called Wayne Kerr....say that together and Im sure you will get my drift
Another funny one.....many years ago my Mum had a netball team mate called Rhoda....all good so far until she got married to
a Mr. Hare.....yup, she then became Rhoda Hare!
Another friend told me her Mum had wanted to call her Robyn...her surname was Conolley....but when her Mum thought about the initials being RC, she thought better of it and called her Carol :)
My nieces daughter has a middle name of Tiana...pronounced Tee arna (I believe it's a Maori name) her first name is Ricci.
Another friend of mine called her daughter Talitha....(pronounced TaIeetha had never heard of that name before nor since
I knew a little girl named Jenelyn,
@Brumington....they are hilarious ROFL
-
I wonder if that's why my mum called me Amy, maybe she thought I would be really bad at spelling :D
LOL Amy, Im sure she didn't.....but you know even with your name there is more than one way to spell it...my cousin called her daughter the same name, but spelt Aimee....my name can be spelt at least 4 different ways and most people initially spell it one of the other ways :)
-
Brummington ... pass me a cloth please. I did say that name - serveral times I admit, and have just sprayed my screen with a mouthful of chicken and salad roll. :o
Oh dear....
-
LOL it does sound worse through a mouthful of food :D :D

Yeah, I think I've had my name mispelled every possible way, even by family members! I have to explain to people that mine is spelled the easiest way :-))
-
I named my second born daughter Joanne Tracy (neither girls liked their names but are happy with the shortened version of Jo & Sue).
Recently I had to write her middle name and I couldn't remember if I had put an 'e' in it or not. She couldn't believe it when I asked her how to spell it, I got told 'well you named me that, you should know how to spell it Mum!'. How often do we write our kids' names in full though once they are adults and fill out their own forms. :-)) :P
-
Judy!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
I just laughed out loud at these!!!
Know a Richard (who goes by Dick) Cox.... :-\
Also a Penny King (tho she married into it)...who has recently had a daughter and named her Josephine. Fine if no-one shortens it to Jo! ;D
GP - one of my daughters' middle names is Tiarn ... never heard of it being Moari tho. :) Could easily be, all I know is it means fairy princess, a fact she is quite pleased sabout at her whole 6 years of age...!
That is funny Judy!! :D
-
Judy, I ask my kids what year they are born in.
-
LOL Jo King.
Judy, that's something I would do.
-
I gave my dd the middle name of Courtney since some people might think her first name was a bit 'exotic' and I did not want her bullied at school. Have never heard the end of it. She hates Courtney and keeps saying, mum what were you thinking???
-
Some kids are never satisfied Courton ;D
My mum and I have the same middle name. Sometimes I ask her why she wasn't more creative :-))
Love the name Jo King, but people would never take you seriously :D :D
-
If I was to have a girl, she would be Elise. My dear grandma is Elsie so a twist of her name.
I also love the names Riley and Isabella or Bella for short.
-
there's a kid in my sons class called ' sledge hammer ' they are miora
l had to ask the kid his name myself as l did not believe my son
-
Surely that is a translation of his name Nazar? ???
-
Brummington ... pass me a cloth please. I did say that name - serveral times I admit, and have just sprayed my screen with a mouthful of chicken and salad roll. :o
Oh dear....
Glad I image you chuckle...sorry about the cleaning!
Some of these names are hilarious! Jo King....why did nobody point this out to them?
-
I made up my daughter's name - Ellia (pronounced Eleea). She also gets called Elli.
She is now 18 & I have since heard of another Ellia & a couple with different spellings :)
-
there's a kid in my sons class called ' sledge hammer ' they are miora

How old is he, Nazar? Maybe it's his nickname, and he doesn't realise it's not his real name.
My cousin got separated from his mum in the supermarket when he was about three, and assured the lady who put out the message over the tannoy that his name was "Bozo"! :D
I used to work on a special baby care unit, and we once looked after premmie twin girls called Charlotte and Charlene Weed......they are both Miss C. Weed. I also worked with a Teresa Green. And a friend whose surname is Smith wanted to call her son Adam Rhys, but luckily thought better of it when she realised what his initials would be!
I like a lot of the Celtic names, such as Rhiannon, Megan (pronounced Meggan), Aislin (Ashling) and Angharad (Annharrad), but I didn't use them for my DD as I knew they would always be mispronounced, and that she would spend her life spelling them. Her name is Casey, and there are lots of ways to spell that too! :D
-
I worked with a man whose name was Richard (call me Dick) Hunter. ;) ;D
Hilarious. That just made me LOL!!!
There is a weather presenter in UK (I think he does the weather for Portsmouth/Southampton region) called Chris Peacock. Don't say it too fast!!!!!
That is too funny Brumington :D
I lived next door to a lovely lady whose name was Fay and the man she married was called Nev Fey so she became Fay Fey. How's that for random?
Also worked with a poor girl named Alisha Doggett
Forgot to say that Genessa (the Gen is pronounced Jen ) is a pretty name.
-
Another one I really like is Amilie pronounced like Emily but the A replaces the E
I was told this was a French name
-
No matter what you call your baby astarra spell it the common way. For some reason my parents (actually mum) only put 1 "L" in Michele which is quite a popular spelling in America.
It became a problem when I went to sell our house once and the conveyancer had registered my name with 2 "LLs" with the land tittles office when we purchased and I had to prove that we were one and the same person :-))
-
Thanx everyone, DH has read thru and had a good laugh too!! ;D
Still looking but think we have settled on a middle name :-)) Now just a first name that goes with it... :-))
A few ideas being thought over now (some of them thanx to this thread!! :-* )
Any more ideas still welcome!! :)
-
Mich, good point, it took me a while to realise that when the ladies on here called you "Michele" they weren't actually spelling your name wrong ;D
Astarra, pleased we could be of assistance! :D :D
Another couple that popped into my head...
Laura
Amanda
I'm sure whatever name you choose, it will be perfect for your bub ;)
-
Haha, funnily enough my DH thought my last name was King after he first met me. We met through friends and his mate told him it was King and he didn't click that it was a joke! :-)) LOL
-

LOL - Didn't realise they were Jo-King!!! ;D ;)
-
I have one DD called Matilda and another called Ruth (aka Tilly and Ruthie) I think they are beautiful names :) If I had had a 3rd daughter she would be Clementine :)
-
Oh, I love the name Matilda :D :D
-
Me too Amy.
-
Just looked up the birth announcements for Newcastle:
Sophie Ann
Juliette Aurora
Annia Jade
Lily June
Amelia Joy
Pippa
lucy
Zoe Chiara

Some of these names are hilarious! Jo King....why did nobody point this out to them?
Hehehehe ;D
My cousin married Mr Towel - first name Terry. I kid you not!!!! Even after being married for over 20 years we still make jokes.
-
I love the name Matilda as well Amy.
I really like unusual names but watch out and look ahead. When they grow up - every time they have to give someone their name to someone, they have to spell it, it can become a real pain in the proverbial
Having said that I love Kiasha, Tenisha and Maddison
-

Mcmish Terry Towel is the CEO of Allianz Australia, same person? I always laugh when I see his name.

I always have to giggle at one of the Australian Breastfeeding Association ladies' name.... Lee King. :o :D
-
LOL :D :D
Imagine if there was a bank manager called Robin Banks :-))
-
I always have to giggle at one of the Australian Breastfeeding Association ladies' name.... Lee King. :o :D
. Bwhaha!
-
I picked Laura for my DD, as its classic.
I just don't understand the appeal of names, that are typical of "Jerry Springer" shows :-\
-
One of my high school science teachers was Max Pouwer (pronounced Power). He totally looked the part of the mad scientist too.
