Has anyone added extra liquid to be able to cook the macaroni in the sauce

Have made macaroni cheese by making the sauce first then boiling the pasta, keeping the cheese sauce hot in the Varoma basket whilst the pasta is cooking, but have never tried cooking it all in one.  If you try it, let us know how you get on  :)

I will try this too, DJ.  Just for your info Australian tbsps are 4 tsps / 20mls, so therefore larger than ours.  However when following recipes by Delia Smith, she uses Australian tbsps  ??? which is rather odd (cannot remember where I read that now) ....

Soups / Sopa de Cebolla (Onion Soup) - with photo
« on: June 12, 2012, 03:46:27 pm »
Name of Recipe:  Sopa de Cebolla (Onion Soup)

Tablespoons are European ones, ie 3 teaspoons or 15ml

Serves:  6

Ingredients:
130g cheese suitable for melting
1kg onions
50g extra virgin olive oil
1 litre chicken stock
Salt
White pepper
500g water
6 slices toast

Preparation:
Put the cheese, cut into 4, into a very dry  *: 10 seconds / Speed 4 (if using Parmesan, set to a higher speed).
Empty into a basin and reserve.
Put the onions into the  *: 5 seconds / Speed 4 (you can also slice them into fine rings).
Remove and reserve.
Put the oil in the  *: 5 minutes / Temp. Varoma / Speed 1.
Add the reserved onion 20 minutes / Temp. Varoma /  :-: / Speed  ^^.
Next, add the stock and the salt 20 minutes / 100° /  :-: / Speed  ^^.
Add the pepper, the 500g water and more salt if necessary 2 minutes / 100° /  :-: / Speed  ^^.
Pour into individual bowls.
Place in each one a slice of toasted bread and sprinkle the cheese over the top.
Place in the oven until the cheese has melted and serve immediately.

Tips/Hints:    [I made this today with the following differences.  I used 2 tbsps Bron’s vegetable stock instead of chicken stock.  I didn’t bother gratinating it in the oven as I was only making it for myself, with the remainder going in the freezer.  What I did was to make some cheese on toast under the grill, trimmed it and just plonked it in the soup.

I found that it didn’t need any salt when using Bron’s stock and it had a lovely sweetish flavour.  A very delicate soup.]

Oh, I have 5 black or dark navy aprons already and was looking for something brighter.  The UK one is quite a nice one and you can see DD wearing it here  :D

Thanks faffa and JD

I have had a look at the Aussie site and they don't say whether they send abroad or not so I will email them to ask.  I see they sell tea towels as well :-) I will also ask the UK people what colour their travel bag is as well.  I know I can get the book here.  I do have an apron (blue) which I got from UK, but I just liked the idea of the green one as well  :D

JD, I looked at the link you sent and went into it a bit deeper as I had my hopes raised then, BUT it seems that you can only get those things at the same time as you buy a TM.  I assume it must be a special promotion to get people to buy one.

Thanks JD, it certainly is much better, but sciatica or no sciatica, I cannot loll around doing nothing, plus I forget my Spanish if I don't keep reading.  Even when we had our two weeks of summer last month, I sat out in the garden revising Spanish grammar.  The next recipe I am going add, I shall actually try and make today  :)

Has anyone seen this short video on You Tube?  It a special promotion until the 25 Jun which includes a green travel bag, some utensils, an apron, and a copy of Travelling with your Thermomix.  I actually quite like the colour of the bag and apron, but there are no details apart from what you see on their [urlhttp://thermomix.vorwerk.com/es/home/]website [/url] and it is pointless sending them an enquiry as they do not send anything out of Spain.  Does anyone know if this is available in other countries, who will post abroad?

BTW Lynn, Thermomix UK are very bad at advertising on their website other things that they sell.  If you do place an order, ask what other things they sell at the time.  When your TM arrives, you get a list of other bits and bobs.  I bought the apron, but because I failed to order it at the same time as my TM, I had to pay postage on top.  I don't know where the list they sent me is now, otherwise I would tell you what was on it.

Hi Robyn, when I had a very bad bout of it a couple of years ago I went to a local McTimoney chiropractor and they did wonders, although it took five visits and had to walk across a snowy field to get there.  Unfortunately they have now moved out to some barn in the sticks and have no way of getting there.

What I am getting now is nowhere near as bad as before and is gradually getting better, so taking less medication.  Thanks for your concern  ;D

Hi Lynn

Well firstly I am a bit of a gadget freak, but do only buy things that I know I am going to use.  I think they will earn their keep because you can buy, for example, fresh fruit and veg in bulk when it is in season and then dry it, and when it is out of season and expensive you will have your own personal stock.  Yes, some fruit and veg can be frozen, but dried food takes up far less space.  You can also dry cooked meat, which would be a great help to us, as I am a vegetarian, DD is away studying during term time so if we have a chicken, for example, DH has to eat it all himself and doesn't like having the same things every day.  So the remaining meat could then be dried and then rehydrated as and when.

There are lots of things you can do with it and you may be interested to this series of videos on YouTube.  The first one is here and there are 8 in total.  Not that I am trying to encourage you to buy more equipment of course ... ;D

Welcome to the forum MamaMix.  I don't know how old your children are but you may like to get them involved with your new machine if they are old enough.

Lol mcmich  ;D  I know what you mean by getting caught up in threads which make you want to buy things.  Working on DH atm to get me a food dehydrator for birthday (something I had never even heard of until I came on the forum).  That will have to be it for the moment as have no more room ...
