Was hoping the salmon shop would be open yesterday as DH was in the area late afternoon but they were shut all day for Anzac Day according to the website.  Want to check it out soon though. Thanks for the location info Wonder.

Agree on holiday maybe budget should be $100/day  :)

This thread is very nearly an online book club quite a few of us have read the same books. I like the discussions and how different people feel about the same book, for example Gone Girl.

Just got back from a mini break - 2 nights - in Hobart. Had such a nice serviced apartment right on the water at Elizabeth Street Pier with nice balcony that we decided to buy and cook local produce, stay in and enjoy our view..... Wow $100 later .... so that has wrecked my budget for the week - haha!  Should have gone out and dh would have taken care of it. But to be honest we often prefer to go to fresh food markets and do our own thing, especially if you can get an apartment with a view just as good as a local restaurant or better. couldn't resist the blue eye fillets and then found the Tassel shop with all those lovely salmon products and herb and spice mixes etc.  Salmon sausages! So nice.  Apparently there is a shop in Kew. I'll be visiting and adding to the freezer!

Great sounding cucumber pickle.  Will try it also.  We are still doing well with veg. Tomatoes all out now but have been eating our own sprouting broccoli, which we have not grown before. It's lovely.  Other broccoli is starting to head now too. Love love love having our own veg.  Still have a lot of beetroot too.parsnips growing well and cabbage seedlings.  Want to put in loads of other stuff  :)

I haven't bought much in the way of groceries but we keep taking drives up the Yarra Valley and there are still a lot of berries for sale plus lately beautiful figs.  My freezer is groaning! But we are going to be well stocked for the winter :) off to Spain and France for May and June so trying to keep the budget under control so I have a full wallet for holiday spending. Nothing like a little incentive :)

I just loved secret seven and famous five too.  And Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn were  favorites too. Then as I got older alistair McLean.  My friend Flicka and all the thunderhead sequels, cs Lewis..... Etc etc. such wonderful entrancing worlds.  Really looking forward to encouraging the grandchildren.  Oldest are 6 so still young but ehen they stay we read them The Naughtiest Girl books and Famous Five.  One of our six year olds is reading "chapter boos" and loves them.  So pleased. Can't wait to start reding the William books to them as we'll :) (Richard Crompton) - so funny.

Pumpkins very cheap at Coles yesterday so making loads of pumpkin purée ready to freeze.  Thinking it will be handy to just add stock etc to for soups.

Loved your blog and pics Rainbow :)
Hally, your visitors should be spoiling you and your family and enjoying your company.  It's sad  they have missed a big opportunity to really be a part of your family and to have you guys all enjoy their visit too, just through selfishness.  Life is so much more enriching when you can give and not just receive.  I would be going out with my family for dinner and letting them cope especially over the holiday period you are looking forward to.
