TM5 problems
« on: October 03, 2016, 06:52:48 pm »
Anyone else had their TM5 misbehave and flash the screen, on and off quickly, light & dark????
My TM5 is about 7 months old and this is the second time it has had to be returned for repair. The same faults a last time.
Apparently, the repair engineer said that this fault - and the flashing of "reverse enabled" when I haven't engaged reverse - is probably down to a spill in the machine.
I can honestly say i haven't had this happen. I am fastidious about ensuring the pins etc are absolutely dry before putting the jug in the TM5. Nothing, as far as I am concerned has overflowed from the jug either.
I love my TM5 but this is driving me nuts. Any advice would be so welcome.
I feel such an idiot. I owned my TM31 for more than 2 years prior to this and had no problems at all with it.
Am I just being unlucky??

Is the screen of your TM5 dirty past94x? I've read on FB other owners who have had flashing screens to be told to just clean the screen and it will stop. Did you take off the blue film that protected the screen? Another reason the screen can flash.

I've only had error161 occur on my machine. It was mended under warranty but sadly my TM5 is now two years old and I will have to meet any future repairs myself.

I can imagine how you feel past94x. I have had to send mine back with the C160 ? Error. Sometimes it jumps out of the  :: when I am doing bread, but not often. It occasionally says I can't use the heating mode when it is mixing but thank goodness nothing other than that.

Wow 2 years Denise. Time goes quickly. Meagan was my consultant but she is going back teaching so I'm not sure who I will turn too. I guess I will deal with HO. My machine will be out of warranty soon to.

No, the screen wasn't dirty. I love to keep it gleaming. It's my pride and joy. I've never had an error message, just weird things happening.
It's gone back today - for the second time since February. I'm a bit disappointed, to say the least.

I am told by Thermomix that the screen flashes when you have a leakage/overspill. As far as I am concerned, I haven't had either.
I also make sure that the pins are thoroughly dry before I add the bowl.

Luckily, Thermomix agreed to send me a TM5 to use whilst mine is being repaired, so I am not getting withdrawal symptoms.
Is this latest machine too sophisticated for general use? Should I have kept my TM31?

I use my TM5 so much and would be lost without it. I still love it, even if it's being very naughty.
I have asked the Thermomix engineer to let me know what was wrong and what he did to repair it - just hope he comes up with something.
Will keep you all informed.

I think the TM31 is a more robust machine.Time will tell if the TM5 is as good.Touch wood my TM5 will continue to be good and not through out anymore error codes.

Good to know UK Thermomix is lending you a machine.I would keep insisting that you are very very careful with the care of your machine.Maybe they can either extend the warranty or give you a brand new machine. :-\

Hi Past94x

My first TM5 did misbehave like yours, right from the start when I was using the cookbook recipes it would jump into reverse and then back out multiple times this happen to my couple of time with in the first two weeks, I reach out the Thermomix and they were fast to respond, the the next thing that happened was the scale screen pop up and got stuck on, I was unable to clear it and got a video of it, I sent them the video and they quickly offer to replace my TM5 with a new one since this all happen in my first 30 days of owning my TM5.. Like you I keep my TM5 clean and did not have any spills. My new has done great sofar and right now I have keep the clear screen protector on.

Question; does the screen pop ups happen when you are in the cookbook only?

I love my TM 5 but I'm also very pleased I kept the 31. Believe it or not I often have both going. I do all my yeast products in the 5 but much of the cooking in the 31. They seem to have morphed into having their own jobs.

Got my TM5 back last week and I rang the technician to see what they had done to it. Apparently, they've replaced the control unit etc. I have decided that if it goes wrong again, I am going to ask for a new one.

Great that you have your TM5 back.I agree that if it goes wrong again you should be given a new machine past94x.

My scales on my TM5 failed this morning.Contacted Vorwerk UK and my machine will be picked up tomorrow to go back to HO to be mended.I must say Chris from HO was extremely helpful and said they will mend it under warranty even though my warranty ran out early September. I'll have to get my pots and pans out of the cupboard :o I will quickly make a couple of things this afternoon before it goes  ;D

Is the TM5 too clever for it's own good???
Mine has been repaired twice in 10 months of ownership and, despite only having it back from repair for  a couple of weeks, the machine screen starting flashing again yesterday.
I have made a note of the date etc and will monitor the situation. It seems to be fine at the moment.

I think you should get a new machine past94x.This problem seems to be persistent and I would hate for your machine to fail when you most need it at Christmas.

So sorry about your scales Denise. Hope you get your baby back very quickly. We all hate to be without them, I know.

I should have kept my mouth shut yesterday!
This morning, whilst using the TM5, the "reverse" just enabled itself in the middle of using the machine.
I noticed the changed of sound immediately, and went over to it to find the "reverse enabled" going on and off randomly.
I couldn't get it to stop, so had to switch the machine off and on again to correct it.
I am so disappointed. I have recommended this machine to so many people (about 5 sales have originated from me in the last 10 months - three through my own demonstrator and two in another area)
I am now waiting to speak to my demonstrator. She is a lovely lady but I hate to keep bothering her.
This time, i am going to ask for a new machine. These random faults are completely spoiling my love of the machine and I find I am nervous of using it, which is ridiculous.
Sorry about the moan everyone. If I didn't love this machine sooooooooooooo much, I wouldn't be so upset.
Will let you all know what happens.

Thermomix have offered me a brand new TM5, to be delivered on Monday.
They were extremely helpful and courteous and are keen to ensure I am happy.
Can't ask for more than that, can i?
