Information re the forum.
« on: May 14, 2026, 11:48:36 am »
Hi all. I decided to email MM and Mr IT again, but be very pointed. This is the reply I received from Mr IT.
Hello

I was out so I didn't notice it was down. Will put it online in the meantime.

The problem is that probably we need to upgrade the server, but at this moment the value we make from the ads do not cover the cost.

We don't want to make money from the forum, but we need to figure a way that the forum pays it's costs.

Do you have any ideias how?

We are talking of a cost of around 100€ a year. But I can give you a drill down of the costs and we an figure a more stable solution.

Regards

I may reply, or may not. There seems to be lots of ads and I’m sure they must make enough money. I hope everyone is well. ❌❌

Thank you Cookie for getting the forum back up and running again.  I do miss it when it's down.

Thanks Mab and KAtie. I simply sent an email to Mr IT. He said to email him everytime it’s down, but then he doesn’t do anything. 😡😡

I think the problem is that most Thermomix recipe sites charge members to use them. ( Cookidoo) There is Facebook, but it  doesn't function in the same way and doesn’t have the pool of saved information that the Forum has. The only way ahead may be to pay a subscription or recruit more members. More members would register more clicks on the adds and return more income. Of course, we could just let it die. I find the adds a nuisance.

Hmmm, not sure what to make of that letter, Cookie.  Obviously MM / IT were making a great deal of money in the earlier days, and good on them, perhaps they could have looked to the future then and arranged for contingencies, however they have (maybe inadvertently) created a community now and I wonder if they understand that development.

Admittedly there are a lot of other forums, blogs, etc. now than there were in the earlier days, but I don't think there are many with the camaraderie and support this one offers.  We are mainly in the same age group and we value the forum so perhaps some sort of acceptable subscription may work.  I really don't have any ideas about this at all ... and I really don't know if that last paragraph makes any sense either (it's 5.15 am here just now!) ... maybe I should have waited until I had wakened up before writing this!
