Has this happened to anyone else?

Yesterday I went to make some rice in my TM5 and the spatchular that came with the machine (the one for removing the internal basket) was disintegrating on the leading edge of the 'blade'.  I have had to throw it out, but I was curious to see if this had happened to anyone else as I hadn't heard of it before.

We arrived home to an empty freezer and I also wanted to cook some quick frozen meals for a friend who's wife is in ICU for several weeks as she undergoes a very delicate procedure so I made red lentil and ginger soup, Lentil, chickpea and semi dried tomato casserole and a vege stew.  That should keep us all going for a few days!

Just back from our European holiday.  Spent 7 days in Turin as DH had an international violin maker's congress (he is Australia's delegate).  His brother in law and two sisters joined us there.  Went down to Cremona, Milan then across to Torino to catch the Bernina Express - the tourist train that runs through the Alps into Switzerland - it was truly awesome.  Spent 4 days in a friend's holiday home alongside a lake near Bern, then on to Zurich and back home.  I am just getting over jet lag and exhaustion.  Wish I could share some photos, but I haven't conquered that technique yet.

Missed the forum, but as it was down for most of the time since returning home I thought I hadn't missed much, but it seems that a lot has happened.  I hope you are all now recovered / recovering from your health problems and things are looking up for you all.

In a desperate last bid to clear all perishables I made a quick guacamole and mixed it into pasta - I don't know that I particularly like the taste of hot / cooked avocado but it was better than throwing it out!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.  We head off in a couple of hours then 40 hours travel, door to door, to Turino in northern Italy.  1 week there then on to Cremona (of course - the violin maker's dream town!), Milan and Switzerland, via the scenic Bernina Express train through the alps and 4 days at a friend's house on one of the Swiss lakes before the 30 hour trek back home!  I nearly blew my 7 kg carry on limit, but just scraped in (we always go with carry on luggage only, it really is so much easier and more convenient when travelling a lot from place to place - you just have to do the laundry more often).

Enjoy your trip to NZ Chookie.  It is a stunningly beautiful country and I know you will love it.  It has changed a lot since I lived there and I don't know if I could go back again for any length of time - not many people I know are left now.

Good luck with the operation, Mab.  You have gone through a tough time recently.

I had to do clothes shopping yesterday (shoes and jacket).  If there is one thing I loathe, it is clothes shopping, however, I had to endure this torture for 4 hours before I finally had everything I needed for our trip.  We are heading off tomorrow and I am hoping I will now be fully clothed for the time we are gone.

Apple muffins - Nagi’s recipe. I hope they’re as nice as my usual blueberry ones, they were much fiddlier to make.
If they are the same ones that I have made before they are delicious.

Whilst walking through a major bookshop yesterday I spied Nagi's new book - on display right next to Brooki Brooks' book!  Interesting that a book shop did this, although I guess they should show impartiality.

DH finally finished working in our bedroom - 3 coats of paint over Easter then putting our new Ikea furniture together yesterday.  The room is still in uproar as we didn't have time to tidy it up completely, but it looks really good.  The curtains, which I loathe, will be next to go when I have time to do something about them!

It looks like so many of us have been battling with various health issues for a while now - some on-going, some new.  I guess age is a factor, but I hope, one way or another, we can all come through this and have much improved day to day lives.

Take care everyone and look after yourselves
