I went into my local bookshop the other day, and while browsing the cookbook section (which I love doing but know I shouldn't... :-))) I was surprised to see In The Mix and... another TM cookbook (can't remember which one) on the shelf. I picked them up and had a flick through, mainly looking at all the yummy pictures ( ;D ) and decided I would buy one. Then I looked at the price on the back of the book. $50! Blimey teddy, I wasn't expecting that.
Now, was that just me being naive? Is that how much the books cost everywhere else?

Amy most of the Thermomix cookbooks are $60, Full Steam Ahead,
In the Mix is $60
Traveling with Thermomix $60
Smaller ones like the Indian book are $35
I have alot, but don't really use them.

Oh wow... my local bookshop is a bargain then!
Still, I don't think I can splurge that much on cookbooks. But I guess I don't really need to because we have the forum :D
I probably should have expected it, especially since the TM itself isn't exactly cheap!

Amy, I find that a lot of 'celebrity chef' cookbooks cost around $50 too so I wasn't too surprised that the TMX ones were that much as obviously they have a limited audience. But yeah, it's not cheap to start a TMX cookbook collection. So far I've only got In The Mix and Dinner Spinner as well as EDC, Meat on the Menu and the Indian cookbook from HO
I really want to get Alyce's QFITT book but $50 plus postage is a big splurge. I'm getting it for Mother's Day.

Amy one of the most useful and pretty cookbooks is Tenina's For Food Sake.The official Thermomix cookbooks ar nice to have but nothing wonderful.

Yeah, I don't think I will be buying many, if any, thermomix cookbooks :P

I bought quite a few of them but barely ever open any except for the one that come with the Thermomix (actually I don't open that but use a scanned copy on my iPad). Most of the time I just use whatever recipe takes my fancy in my other twenty million and one recipe books I own and convert them on the fly. I'm pretty ADHD when it comes to cooking and have a tendency to add a bit of this and that to my cooking depending on what I have to hand.
I am curious to know however whether the recipe communities book profits are actually being split with the people who contributed the recipes....it would be a little rude if you had posted a recipe there and then it was used in the book for someone elses profit.

I am trying to convert more recipes too stacelee. We have a lot of old cookbooks which probably have some really good recipes in them, but I just worry that I will do something wrong and ruin the recipe, which would waste all my ingredients. I have done that a couple of times in the past :(

Touch wood I haven't had any total disasters yet....except for a chocolate mousse that didn't set, but I have a history of stuffing up chocolate mousse...the porcelain member of the family has been fed quite a few of them. According to my husband anything has to be better than the very first meal I ever fed him...Chilli Prawns, I halved the recipe but forgot to halve the amount of chilli. He grew up in a family that only eats bland food and apparently I nearly killed him...the start of a beautiful relationship :D

Amy until you feel quite comfortable converting, do as someone suggested. Find a recipe in the EDC and use that as a guide. After sometime you will find using the TMX and times etc will become second nature.

I can answer that question stacelee because one of my recipes is in the book. We each received ten copies plus some other books in the series and a carry bag. I gave mine to family and friends with Thermomixes.
The book belongs to Vorwerk so that is where the profits go. It will mainly be used as an incentive and in years to come you may be able to buy it but really I wouldn't bother. All the recipes are available on line.

I'm glad to hear that they are looking after the contributors....its nice to see something good about head office. I don't tend to go over the the recipe community site very often....I find it harder to navigate than here so don't normally bother, also there are sooooooo many great recipes here that have been shared, I don't really have a need.

My jam didn't set, so it became sauce over ice cream or mixed into yoghurt, my beetroot salad I chopped too much became dip and a topping for baked potatoes, I tried chopping zucchini and turned it into mush, used it in a cake. The list could go on and on.
Nothing is ever wasted in this house, just need to take a deep breath and learn from the mistake

Thanks keiramax :) I do try to rescue my cooking "flops", but there have been a couple of occasions where I have mixed flavours that probably shouldn't have been mixed ( :-)) ) and the result has tasted pretty gross. It's hard to find another use for a dish or element of a dish that tastes like old socks :P
But I certainly learn from my mistakes! So there's a positive :D
