Kippers are a bit difficult to get here, might use smoked salmon. Had smoked kippers recently at Rick Steins in Molly Mook in Aust., for breakfast. Delicious, imported from Scotland.

I did wonder, as they seem to be a British thing and that is presumably why the Spanish name for the recipe is simply smoked herring paté. I imagine that smoked salmon would work well and perhaps have a more delicate flavour than kippers ...

Kippers are readily available in Woolies/Safeway and some IGA and Coles here in oz.
All frozen of course, have some now in my freezer.
There is also a small family run smokehouse in SA in Handorf that does all things smoked including kippers, English mackerel etc.
Will try this recipe with some hot smoked salmon.

I will look forward to hearing how it goes.
You used to be able to buy smoked fish etc just outside Cowra. I'm not sure if you still can as it is a couple of years since I was last there.
