After reading the article on rice. I am wondering does this mean all types of cooked rice.
Rissotto?
Rice Pudding?
Anything with rice?
Anyone know.

Sorry, what was your question - not sure I read the rice article?
-
I don't know what article you're referring to either!

The artcile states that cooked rice must be stored straight away in the fridge for 1 day only, if not all horrible things grown and may cause food poisioning.

I've always been dubious about leftover rice. I'm very concerned about freezing it but apparently it is done with no problems. I'd never use leftover rice which is more than a day old and I would NEVER give my kids reheated rice which has been cooked more than once (made one day, used in fried rice the next day and then reheat the fried rice) - not so strict with myself! As far as I understand, the nasties have a chance to breed within a certain temperature range. The more times it goes into that temperature range and the longer it spends in there, the more chance there is to get sick. By cooling it quickly you reduce that time in the 'dangerous' temperature zone. I've also been told if reheating to over heat and let cool down. This ensures any nasties are killed by the intense heat. This is true of all food reheated.

I did read that and it is true that food poisoning from poorly stored or reheated rice is definitely a problem! You should keep cooked rice in your fridge for no longer than 2 days and when you reheat it, it really needs to be nuked to kill off any bacteria. Never freeze, reheat and store leftovers again either. You're better off tossing out any leftovers say if you've cooked rice, made the leftovers into fried rice and then want to reheat leftover fried rice later on.

Ditto from me. Make sure it is well reheated when you reheat it on day 2.

Well that is my lesson of the day. i eat a lot of rice and do exactly what I shouldn't. Thanks for the info everyone.
-
I've learnt something too. I made Alyce's fried rice by making rice day before, putting in fridge to cool and then making fried rice next day and eating, and then reheating for lunch next day. Have I done the wrong thing?
-
I think so Kezza.
I am glad I am not the only one who reheats rice.
I must say to date no-one has ever been sick, not evn ds when he was really young.
Having said that I am only going to let it be one day old in future.

I have decided I cant keep throwing rice out. Tonight I reheated yesterdays rice. I still have some left.
Now the decision do I toss this or freeze it for tomorrow or just go on as I have for all these years. ???
To my knowledge we have never been sick with rice.

For years I have reheated rice and have had no adverse reactions. after the first day I freeze it in small meal lots. I then reheat it in the microwave. The chooks love any left overs.

Thanks chookie ;)
