This was a very funny review of this gal's take on the Thermomix demo.

You have to agree about the sugar and carbs.

Oh dear - a bit 'knitted lentils' isn't she! I can't be dealing with anyone who sees food purely as fuel. Where is the passion!

It's a worry. LOL!

Gert, I enjoyed the review! What a skewed view on life she has - and since when it has been OK to eat man made foods? Protein shakes, why not natural protein? I eat low sugar and gluten free and the thermomix is the best appliance in my kitchen. It will suit all our funny eating habits!
-
Thanks Gert, I enjoyed it as well. We all want something different from our foods and I love carbs ;D
-
now I understand why I'm so fat - too much sugar and carbs (oh well) there's no way to escape it now that she has analysed for me where I'm going wrong. Bet she would have whipped up a nice protein shake in the Thermie if she had one tho ;)

THat reminds me of an friend telling me about going to a party for an ex-work colleague who had "turned lesbian", and her telling us of her disgust at the "lesbian bushwalker food" on offer. It was all vegetarian or vegan, and lentils. Had us all in stitches! :D

Thanks Gert, interesting read.
I love carbs but carbs don't like me :)
-
Gosh Gert where do you find them.........I was going to reply with I start the day with a container of Shrek juice, porridge made with my own Almond milk, etc.....why bother..... LOL

I thought this said lebanese when I first read the title and didn't think much of it.
Think I should be wearing my glasses ;D

I thought it was funny because she seems very sincere and she is right about the demos being heavy on carbs and sugar but when she said she went home and had a protein shake it sent me over the edge.
People think I am odd because I eat Thai congee with plenty of chilli and fish sauce for breakfast. Carbs, salt , protein and veggies.

Everyone's different. I only ever have a green smoothie for breakfast and I get lots of strange looks :)
-
Wonder, thanks for all your advice on green smoothies. I have been having them more or less regularly...less as the days get colder unfortunately but I have had people ask me if I have lost weight...
-
I have to commend her on refraining from being a stark raving vegan to boot! ;)
-
Haha funny review.. She obviously hates carbs but wonder if she knows how much harm sugar substitutes and things like protein shakes can do.. Pity she didnt se a demo done by someone like quirky jo... Might have had a different opinion.. BUT each to their own ...
-
As Frozzie says ... each to their own.
I thought it was a rather strange review, but we all look at things in a different way and a different view point is simply that, another person's thoughts on the world around them.

I am at work and can't open the link. I am confused by the lesbian reference? Is she gay ???

Gert, do you have a recipe for the congee.....I LOVED eating it for breakfast when we were in Thailand and Phuket (when I was younger and used to go with my parents to Taiwan, I used to have something similar for breakfast there). I would love to have a go at making it for myself. I'm not a traditional breakfast person....we were only allowed toast or cereal for breakfast when I was growing up so now I have a bad habit of skipping it entirely....I have to be out of the house by 6.30 every morning so its too much trouble.

That is the name of her blog.
Stacelee all I do is pour some good chicken stock into the pot add some rice all the veggies cut into small pieces or mixed frozen chicken or pork mince or cooked bits or not, plenty of chilli flakes or fresh, lemongrass or not, ginger or not, lots of fish sauce, fresh or ground coriander or both. Cook to a soupy porridge consistency. I make a big pot, freeze half. Leave enough or a bowl everyday for about 5 days.I take it out a bowl at a time and reheat only that amount. Be sure to keep it in the fridge and reheat to really hot
I usually make this when I make dog food out of big old chickens. When I cook the chicken I put lots of veggies in the pot including lots of,celery as well as concentrated veggie stock. All the veggies then get incorporated into the dog food and I am left with a nice stock for my congee.
It is pretty flexible. You could add prawns or beef and any other Thaimflavours you like. As you can see it is basically boiled rice with whatever. I like it hot and salty.
Hope this helps. Someone for sure has a REAL recipe but I have been to Thailand many times and have never had the same congee twice.

I find it a bit strange that the author of that particular blog didn't pipe up and mention her particular food preferences to the host or the demonstrator prior to the demo. My demonstrator knew I was a Coeliac at my TM demo and adjusted the menu accordingly, even though I was sold on the TM anyway! I think once you start to talk to people and realise just how versatile the TM is in catering for different dietary requirements, she wouldn't have felt as she did! To be honest, I didn't even find her review funny and good luck to her if she just wants to survive on protein shakes and tuna!! It is certainly not difficult to manage a low GI, gluten free diet (speaking for myself) without giving up all of the carbs!!!

Gretchen, I adore congee. Must make it next time I make up some chicken stock. I love the pickled veggies they serve it with and the flakey stuff - prawn flakes, I think.
I only eat savoury food for breakfast, often last nights left overs!
Did anyone read any of the rest of her blog? I haven't, but will be interested to see what sort of stuff she writes about.
Odd to name your blog using your sexual and food preferences. Mine would be
Heterosexual Omnivore!

I found it funny as she is obviously very naive in terms of food and whTs good for you and whats not.. Let her be in her world of meat eg and protei shakes lol. Was. Ery much the pot calling the kettle black imo but like gert thought that she was coming from an honest place as naive as that place is.. To be fair it was her gf that was interested in going and not her so from the get go nothing could beat her current diet in her mind... Like i said each to their own.. Oh and i love carbs haha everything in. Moderation!!

I had a good laugh. Thanks Gretchen.
