Title: No wheat/No egg/No dairy/No nuts/No soy
Post by: cecilia on April 24, 2012, 12:37:19 am
Dear forum friends,

My mission for the day is to try to go through the Thermomix recipe books searching for recipes which will meet the need of a family will multiple allergies - no wheat/no egg/ no dairy/ no nuts/ no soy.

All I'm asking is for those with experience of multiple intolerances to list a recipe and pref the book it comes from.

I am aiming to compile a reference list eventually as we often meet people who are in this stressful situation and reach out hoping Thermomix will make their lives easier.

Wish me luck and please help if you can.

That could be a tough combination, Cecilia.  I guess meat is included in the diet so perhaps it's not too much of a challenge.  Legumes and beans, etc. also offer some good alternatives, but it looks like the traditional roast and three veges fit in to the diet fairly easily.  It may just be the dessert / cake / biscuit area that poses the challenge.

That's nice feedback, Goldfish.  I'm glad I'm not just cluttering up the forum with useless info.  My hope is that my project will help consultants who are pressed for time and also people dealing with allergies in their own lives or families.

I've only been skimming and scanning to get this started so if you notice an error, please reply to warn people.  Thanks.

This is great Celia, you have been very busy.
In the post Healthy Eating with Cyndi O'Meara:
Ghee is clarified butter, so it would be dairy, you could substitute with coconut oil.

wow there is a lot of work in this.. and it will make my life easier!!
just wondering if there is any packaged foods in any of these? like margarine? I have been unable to find one in australia that does not contain soy, same for a lot of other seemingly safe and normal foods!
one of the reasons i want a thermi!!

Just be aware that that some things containing wheat don't contain gluten so gluten free won't mean wheat free.
Coconut flour and oil are great ingredients to get acquainted with.
My son is wheat grain dairy soy and sugar free but thankfully we can have egg!

Thanks for your encouragement, Butterfly girl.  :)  I don't recall any margarine or other packaged goods, but it is some weeks since I compiled all these lists, so please check for yourself if it's significant to you.

Hi Cecilia, that's very helpful!
We have multiple food intolerances, have recently bought the TM & are investigating which cookbooks would be most helpful. Your notes will be a good start!

Just one thing I noticed in passing - as far as I'm aware pine nuts are actrually a seed so should not be a problem for nut allergies. (That's one we don't have though, so if you do it's worth checking up on to be sure)

Cheers,
Mel

Thanks, Mel.  Must get on to the next few cookbooks.  This has been a worthwhile project for me.  I am a consultant, and I am constantly challenged to assist people with specific information like this.  It's good to work together on the bigger issues and this forum provides the perfect framework for gathering support.  :)
