Title: Quaker Oat recipes
Post by: Halex on April 17, 2012, 11:53:04 pm
I have a lot of quaker oats. There is only so much porridge & Anzac cookies I can make.

I am assuming they last  well past their date.

Any other recipes?

Thanks

H :)

These museli bars have become a favourite in our house, they use 100g oats and we replace the craisins with choc chips yummo!

Hally, I'm sure I have some vegetarian recipes that use rolled oats (savoury type loaf), if you are interested (non TMX).  I think Helene's Rustic bread loaf also uses quite a few oats (as in Helene of Super Kitchen Machine).

Hally,  just throw a handful into your bread recipe as you knead .   Make granola or Museli.

I've recently made Tenia's Cranberry and Almond Granuesli which uses 4-5 cups of rolled oats. It was delicious and disappeared very quickly - I need to make some more.

I will try to post up my family recipe for Parkin which is a ginger cake that uses oats.

You can make Cyndis vegetarian sausage rolls and freeze them.

I always add a cup of oats to my Choc chip cookies - delicious!

And for any recipes calling for nuts - to make it school friendly I normally substitute sunflower seeds, still give it a little crunch but ok for school.

Bill granger does a sensational pear, oat and raspberry loaf in one of his cookbooks, great for a weekend breakfast. I haven't tried it in the TMX yet so sorry I don't have a conversion.

This is an old recipe out of The Amrita Cookbook put out by the Lotus Yoga Centre, Wellington in 1982

Cottage Cheese Loaf

1 cup cottage cheese
1 cup tasty cheese, grated
3/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 onion chopped and sauteed
2 cups rolled oats
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp dill
2 tbs soy sauce

Mix all ingredients together.  Put into a greased baking dish, bake at 300 F for 1 hour.

You must have just about used up all the oats by now, Hally.

It only uses 30g but you'll get the idea for using in smoothies Amy's Berry Smoothie (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9174.0), Vegetarian Sausage Rolls (http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/node/17055), Bircher Muesli (QFITM), Banana & Coconut Porridge (QFITM), Sweet Potato Fritters (QFITM), Crumble Topping  (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6209.0), Oatmeal & Sultana Cookies (http://www.mylittlethermomix.com/2012/03/oatmeal-sultana-cookies.html), Glenda's Banana Bread (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9145.0), Banana Oat & Spelt Pancakes (http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/recipes/banana-oat-and-spelt-pancakes/35247), Cranberry & White Chocolate Cookies (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3538.0), Nutty Milo Slice (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4169.0), Ezekial or Bible Bread (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=927.60) to name just a few. I'm pretty sure you will go through it quicker than you think, especially if you find a favourite recipe or two.

Hally - these were in my inbox this morning - not a TMX but I'm sure you could convert it if you wanted to . . . at least it will use up another 180 gm of your oats . .  ;D

You'll get there Hally - certainly admire your tenacity!  Should we set up a guessing comp where we try and guess how many days it'll take you to get through all those oats?  Maybe the prize could be a year's supply of your wonderful oatmeal cookies . . . . . ;D

Judy, just got back from NZ - been up since 1.00 am and I'm feeling totally knackered.  But thanks for the best wishes, it was a wonderful trip and I caught up with so many people whom I hadn't seen for a great many years.  Now all I have to do is stay awake for another 7 hours - Hally, have you got any oats to spare to keep me going?

Still lots of as here.just done another batch of anzac cookies, thats 300g today. Would have done more, but need to go out now until 5, plusds gf is over  and let me just say....i think she is very good at getting them both into trouble.

She is blonde, pretty, cute & an angel to look at, but...... They both ended up in the pool when i said no, she got her jeans wet, so i said take them off, next her knickers & t-shirt, so i said you might as well go in now, big smiles.

H ???

Great at site JD.

I am going to have the milk, oats & honey bath tonight, bit worried I might come out sticky & need a shower afterwards, we will see. 2 cups in a bath regularly will certainly go through them.

Also thought i might grind it down to flour & use 1/2 bakers  flour & 1/2 oat flour. Would it take longer to cook?
