Hi everyone, I joined the forum yesterday after making a snap decision to purchase a TMX. Sight unseen, no demo! That's how good the reviews and discussions on the net are, I'm impatient to get cooking as is my youngest daughter who wants to ae lemon tart ASAP. I had ths brain wave that all my appliances that will now be unused and I plan on storing them for my kids when they move out..issue being, they will want TMX too! I'm a bit apprehensive that I've just purchased a very expensive bread kneading machine ( my hubby loves making pasta, pizza and bread so he is set). I've been searching the kids recipe thread and can see lots of school treats to be made too. One recipe Im Searching for is coleslaw, without much luck! Anyway...I'm sitting here in anticipation of delivery which will be post Easter, I have to gab to friends to be wowed by my purchase then I get the thermomix server too..
-
hi penny and welcome u r right in saying that the kids will want a TM i know my lot would love one. making pasta and pizza dough is a
walk in the park so DH will be very happy. i will try and find a coleslaw recipe for you. or u can go to the home page and type in ,coleslaw.
it will be in the book that comes with the TM
-
Welcome to the forum ,
My best advise I can give you is always leave your TM on the bench and you will find you will be using it all the time. I am fairly confident that you and your DH will absolutely love the TM as the rest of us do.
And as for the coleslaw you are going to be amazed by how quickly you can whip up a coleslaw with very very little effort. (something like 10 seconds and your done) lol
The Coleslaw recipe is in the Every day cookbook that comes with the TM.
Hope you get your TM nice and quickly. :)
-
Welcome Penny, you will love your new purchase. When making the Coleslaw be careful not to over blend it happens so quickly, also try the beetroot salad that is in the same book, very yummy.
-
Yes I have had the problem with over chopping my coleslaw :(
I don't like coleslaw soup ;D
-
i still have not made coleslaw for that reason dede, (coleslaw soup)
-
Thanks for the welcome, I'd forgotten I get books. 10 second recipes are just mind boggling to me! I just cut an onion up to use in my lunch.with a knife...how old fashioned!
-
Hi Penny, welcome to the forum. No procrastinating with you :D :D :D You won't regret your snap decision though and already you seem to know exactly what you want to make first. When I make coleslaw using 200g cabbage, I only chop it for 3 sec/speed 4 - it takes longer to get everything out of the fridge than it does to make coleslaw so be careful not to over chop.
-
I've made coleslaw before in the TM, but my preference is cabbage sliced in long fine strips.
Why not pop over and enter in the poll (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=395.msg89754;topicseen#msg89754) so we can keep track of where our members are from.
We have lots of delicious recipes here that our members have kindly posted - and here is my current list of favourites (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) (which needs updating soon) - we also look forward to hearing from you if you have any queries, comments or converted recipes of your own to offer.

Welcome to the Forum Penny. My chooks just love TMX coldslaw. Have a look at my 2 second salad (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=7977.0). This is what we now use. Have fun.
-
Welcome to the forum Penny. You will be amazed at the things you can do with your TMX.
-
Welcome Penny. You have made a life changing decision. I wanted to break up some biscuits for a cheesecake base a while ago, it took less than 3 seconds to do 250g biscuits. Fantastic machine.
-
Hello and welcome to the forum Penny. Chookies 2 second salad is a winner in our house. We all like this much more than coleslaw.
Another of Chookies tips (there are many great tips here at the forum) is to make your mayonnaise/dressing first -
don't clean the bowl - then make your salad using up the dressing left in the bowl. Happy Thermomixing.
-
Welcome to the forum Penny. The TM will change your life, you're going to have a ball cooking.Have fun ;D
-
Hello and welcome Penny. The thermomix is a great addition to any kitchen.
Take Care and Happy Cooking

Hi Penny,
I also bought my TM sight unseen and was a bit nervous when it arrived. But it is the best decision I ever made and it is easy to use.
I use it multiple times a day, actually enjoy cooking now (a miracle) and have hardly used my stove or pans since it arrived.
I also thought of giving my Vitamix and Magimix to my daughter (my other daughter already has my older versions of these) but I feel like I am giving her something second rate and that she should really have a TM! If I can ever afford it I would like to buy them both a TM.
Have fun and welcome,
Anne.

Welcome to the forum Penny.

Welcome Penny,
I bought my thermomix sight unseen too.
Best thing I ever did.

Delivery is tomorrow...how exciting! My birthday is in 5 days so I think I'm set for a gift.
I made boloagnaise today and we quadrupled the recipe, so imagine me cutting up 4 onions, 400g bacon, celery etc. I ended up getting out the food processor and then made pasta too, the whole time thinking next times make all this it's thermomix time! I am going to make bechamel sauce late tomorrow or Friday and pasta for lasagna, any hints are much appreciated.
I'm very excited!

I'm very excited!
Best Birthday gift ever ;D Enjoy your cooking tomorrow :)
-
Enjoy your TM. I almost hyperventilate when I don't get to use my TM, especially when I'm away and haven't taken it with me. You'll learn to dream about what recipes you can create and make all the time!
-
Exciting, you will be dreaming about your TM tonight lol.
What a great Birthday present
(Happy Birthday for 5 days time Penny)
-
It's 2.31....delivery is 1 minute late......anticipation is good right!
-
;D ;D ;D I remember that, mine came half an hour late the longest half an hour in my life. Enjoy your special day :D
-
It's here, mother and child both doing well.
We made the concentrate (halved the salt and will freeze inPortions)
Lemon cake is cooking in the oven and rice is now brewing away.
The machine is much noisier than I expected, oh well.
My kids said the concentrate smelt good...my kids don't eat veggies so what a positive first comment.
My actual demo is on the 26th once school goes back and I think I'll book a veroma demo in may all going well.
Yippee
-
That's great. Glad the delivery wasn't to painful. :)
Congratulations. So is it a boy or girl? :)
-
I'm thinking girl
-
Woohoo Penny, what a way to get started. Your new little baby girl is hard at work all ready. Have you named her yet?
-
Can't think of a name...she certainly is spoiled though.
All this attention!
Today I made porridge, focaccia, cookies, hommus and meatballs (chicken)
Tried to make tahini and failed, used store bought stuff.
Oh pizza dough last night! My pantry is going to be bare at this rate..so far I've run out of butter, choc chips and flour.
Is there a stock standard list of basic ingredients that people have on hand?
My biggest issue is cleaning her, can see that two bowls would be an advantage.
It's hard to get everything out of the bowl, not sure if that's a left handed issue or design..
-
Penny, I am anxiously waiting for the second bowl promo.
As far as cleaning is concerned, it can hard to get everything out. There are new brushes for sale via Helenes website. For more information check out http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=8808.0
Also Gert has a few good ideas here http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3489.0

Thank you, I'm off to read
-
Penny, here's (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1571.0) an early thread about pantry items.
-
Thanks for the links,
I'm in trouble, I think I need to enrol in a thermomix addiction group.
Before I goat this machine....48hrs ago I read the posts and thought..as if these people use these machines every day, that much..
But I get it now, I'm absolutely converted.
Today I've made, porridge, pasta dough, white sauce and ice cream mix (that's freezing) and I'm honestly sitting here thinking what else can i make. Hubby said custard but I think ice cream is enough sweet food for one day.
This morning he got the choice..microwave porridge or TMX....he chose thermomix, we added a banana this time! My consultant rang while it was cooking and said...oh what recipe. Apparently there is a recipe where you mill the oats before cooking? I'm happy with how it turns out without milling.
So where is the "how much do you love your TMX thread?"
Im litterally dreaming About what to cook next.
-
Another one hooked ;D Glad you are enjoying it Penny and there are so many postings on this forum regarding our love for this machine, just keep reading and you will see what I mean. Have a fun weekend getting to know your machine.
-
Penny there is no hope for you now. You can't turn back (not that you would want too)
And don't worry the addiction just never wears off. After 15 months I still love using the TM and am always looking at new recipes to try. :)
-
i dont know what i am addicted to, is it the TM or this forum :-\
-
Sometimes I'm not sure which one is more important? The forum or TM?
The TM wouldn't be the same without the forum, and the forum definitely wouldn't be the same without the TM :)
-
Mandi, there wouldn't be a forum if it wasn't for the TMX ;) A perfect marriage.
-
. . . that great philosophical question . . . . the chicken or the egg . . . .??
Love my TMX - but certainly love the forum . .!!!!!!!

Too big of a word for this time of night GF :)
-
Let's face it everyone- we're addicted to our TM as well as the forum! Let's not kid ourselves!!
-
At least it is a harmless addiction. Well except for the extra inches around the waistline.
-
Thought I should update you all on our new addition, my hubby.named her Thelma.
She has made, so much rice and porridge, curries, soup , doughs and more.
In 5 days...
I hear you about the extra inches... Solutions are varied...exercise, or buy bigger clothes!
My task for the next few weeks is to get some bases. Ade up, stocks, pastes etc.
Also i need to learn about making smaller quantities of recipes, I'm happy to use
Thermomix recipes but I don't need such large quantities?
-
I often halve recipes Plb so that I can try more recipes. Just cut processing and cooking time by 20%.

Oh ta, I did process some bacon today..laughed I was going for diced and got bits....
Wait for it... 2seconds! Now 20% of 2 is... :D
So much fun using Thelma...and this forum!
-
Lol. Glad you didn't try 5 seconds :)
-
My demo is today to get my free thermoserver, I've ordered a thermomat and I am going to look at some cookbooks. Does anyone have any any cookbook recommendations from thermomix? I have ordered two from tenina, for foods sake and ...
-
Here's a list of all the books currently available to Thermomix users Plb - perhaps if you have a browse and check out what recipes others have done and their reviews it will help you decide. My favourites recipes come from the forum and Tenina's & Alyce's books are my favourites.
-
I just got my tenina andalyce book. Wow, so beautifully presented and I haven't even opened the cover
-
Pictures maketh the books Penny, unfortunately that's what is lacking in the HO produced books. The International series have photos but nowhere near as nice as you will find in the books you have in your hand at the moment.
-
I had a quick flick through in the mix and the mwoc books, but I had already spent $60 to get the thermomix mat and have those scrumptious new tenina and alyce books to devour. The demo was great, one friend who was coming as a favour actually researched prior to her coming over and had nearly decided before the demo, she is booking a demo and coming to my varoma demo in a few weeks.
The food today was exceptional, I was thinking risotto would be foul cooked this way, proven wrong! The sorbet is heavenly and my only disappointment was the grainy custard, that lemon rind grit does my head in! I sent my friend home with salad, dip, risotto and custard.
-
Glad you and your friend enjoyed your demo. How many others were there?
-
Just two friends and an extra consultant that was watching (and learning)
-
Welcome to the forum Penny, glad to see your new family member is making herself useful! ;)
Yep, we all are crazily addicted to our TMs on here...
Best of luck, enjoy!
