Has anyone had any success cooking wild rice in the TMX? I really like wild rice but have only cooked it once, on the stove top, took my eyes off it for a minute or two and it split (which apparently is a problem with wild rice if you're not careful). Any ideas / help / suggestions?

I have cooked it in the Thermomix same as usual way with white rice but takes about 40 mins.

I make it too in the basket- usually takes 35-40 minutes. As it is actually not rice, some of the grains (kernels) will open-you can't do anything about it, it's just the way wild rice behaves when cooked.

Actually, most of the wild rice kernels should split when properly cooked if you are using true American native wild rice.
Curling of the split kernels is a sign of overcooking.

The "wild" rice genetically modified for growth in shallow water (paddies) is usually not as long as the true wild rice and takes less time to cook. You can see the difference when the kernels are side by side. True wild rice kernels are usually more than half an inch long, often longer, and look more stick-like than granular.

Thanks everyone. I was under the impression that to make wild rice correctly it was not meant to split open, but it looks as if I was well and truly wrong. I now feel confident that I did it right the first time so will happily try again. I wasn't aware that "they" had genetically modified wild rice, I will have to be more careful in the future when I am buying the product to make sure I get the real thing.
