Hi all,
I'm not that enthused about paying over $100 for a thermomix bag. I'm just wondering if any members have developed their own system or method for transporting the thermomix in the car for holidays etc?
Doe the thermie have to lie on its side to protect the scales? If I padded the thermie in bubble wrap and put it inside a reasonably snug plastic box would that do the job do you think?
Thanks for any suggestions and or comments.

I took mine along on my holiday trip to my daughter's and to my friends.
I put the TM31 in a plastic tub with a lid, packed accessories, some towels and a couple of other "soft" things around it (bag of rice), etc. It worked great. The tub was inexpensive - I got it at Walmart or maybe Target. It does have "handles" where the lid fastens, which makes it easy to carry.

I have kept the original box so if I was to take my TM anywhere I would use the box and repack it in there. But as yet my TM has always stayed home (but we usually don't go far away as with 5 kids it's easier to just do day trips (and cheaper)

I would suggest keeping the box as well.
I do think that $100 to protect $2000 for it's lifetime is a pretty good insurance plan :)
I am not sure but you might be able to get a box from HO - If we take them back after delivery they do recycle them for posting back machines that have been sent in for repair without the original box.

Like Andie, I bought a big plastic tub and packed the TMX and its accessories in, padded by towels. It made the 2000km return journey to Qld without any dramas.

So, with the question of whether it lays on it's side - what's the answer to that one girls?
-
I think it is supposed to remain upright if at all possible.

Hmmm I got told to lay it on it's side to protect the scales. I normally wrap it in a thick towel too.

The green tm carry bag bag is an economical solution it is $80 - contact your consultant or head office directly

Thanks for the responses everyone! :) Dang it, my son already wrecked the box using it as his "kennel". I will try and contact HQ and see if they can sell me one direct. $80 is not too bad, I thought it would be more because of how much they are selling on ebay.

One other point. The rigid plastic tub will protect the TM from having something fall on it. Someone was helping me load my van and pushed a case full of wine that had not yet been secured and it tipped over and landed on top of the plastic tub. I shudder to think of the damage if my machine had been in a soft sided carrier.

I pack mine in its plastic tub, standing upright. I also forgot to say that at the bottom of the tub, I put one of those non-slip rubber mats so that it doesn't slide around.
