Time to dust off your favorite pie recipes and celebrate the day.
Here's the Wiki entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi_Day).

Wow I didn't that existed. Pies on the 14th. :D 22/7 on the 14th too. I'll be able to work out problems with my pie using pi.
-
Thanks Andie.
Wed 14th is ds news day. We have just talked about this & dh & ds are going to make up a little presentation on Pi day and take it in for news.
Your are such a knowledge of information.
Pi night we will have pie for dinner too.

What a great idea Hally. The teacher will have to explain to the children all about pi then. :D

I didn't even know pi day existed. I veiwed the site you put up Andie and seems it started in America.
Great excuse to eat pie though. Will take some mini apple pies to work for morning tea.

Michele, , thank you, i was trying to think of pies that coukd be eaten cold.
I have a mini pie maker, will make 25 apple pies for the kids for ds news.

Hally, you are a champion. Wish I was in DS class.
You are such a wonderful, involved mum.

I'm reworking a recipe of an old family favorite to cut it down to size. An Apple/Raisin/Bourbon pie with Sour cream topping.
I'm also going to make this savory pie (http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Farmer-s-Market-Sausage-Pie)
a friend sent me the link and assures me that this is one savory pie that is excellent served cold - she says her husband thinks it is better the second day after the flavors have had a chance to blend.
-
Andie thanks for reminding me. I have a recipe for Raisin and Port pie. It is delicious.

International Pi day was a huge hit at school. The teacher was very impressed that we as a family had spent so much fime & effort on ds news. The kids loved the pies. One little very very smart boy knew about pi, so he was happy that he knew about pi. The teacher told me it was more like yr 8 maths.

Congratulations Hally and family. :-*

She would have to be impressed Hally, bet that got talked about in the lunch room with the other teachers. Bet CP was rather chuffed with it's success.
-
Yes JD, all the kids were telling him the pies were great, he was the popular boy at school. This morning a few kids came up to me and said they loved my pies, bless them.
Thanks cookie.

Wow, Hally! Your lovely DS was handed a huge lemon . . and look at the lemonade he came up with!!! I'm sure this "lesson in life" will stick with him forever. In my book, you're up for Parents of the Year!! :) :) :)
-
Thank you goldfish & thank you Andie for telling us all about it.

I totally love that my birthday is Pi day!! ;D
I think my children should be into this and make me pies for my birthday every year! They have no excuses really. ;)
-
Some schools here have really taken Pi day to a much higher level. There are children who memorize as many of the (unending) numbers as they can and recite them just for the fun of it.
One young man recited more than 4000 numbers! See (part of it) here. (http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/video/6844004-hundreds-of-students-celebrate-pi-day/)
I forgot to take photos of the pies I made. Sausage pie for the savory and apple raisin pie for the sweet. Had a nice veggie salad to go with...
