Title: Cappuccino review
Post by: judydawn on April 27, 2009, 07:25:29 am
Can't believe I have only just made this for the first time and just how easy it was.

Cappuccino - Everyday cookbook, page 30

Only wanted 1 cup (dh doesn't drink anything except flat whites) so made 1/3 of the recipe and was so surprised that it tasted like real cappuccino!  Plenty of froth.  Used Nescafe Espresso coffee granules.  Next time I have visitors I will be offering this to them and I can't believe people pay $1000 or more for a coffee machine & have to go to more trouble than this.

5/5 in my book, it is all I expect from a coffee.

Please post this one, is it just the powder one? Have seen one posted on Spanish web site, which mix all the  dry ingredients up, vanilla cinnamon powdered milk coffee etc and then you have it on hand to take to office etc

Recipe for Bron - cappuccino

3 tablespoons instant coffee or 2 x short espresso (I used espresso granules)
1000g milk - I used low fat milk
Vanilla sugar to taste

Place all ingredients into TM bowl and cook 7 minutes @ 80o on speed 4.  For the last 20 seconds increase to speed 8.

It seems a lot of coffee for 4 cups but I only made 1 large mugful and used 1/3 of the above recipe.  May not be everyone's cup of coffee but I loved it and there was no effort at all in making it.

JD, obviously less time for a third of amount? ??? ??? ???
My husband loves instant coffee, so this would be great for him!

Yes, I know I tried half the time but the milk wasn't hot enough so did it for a bit longer. Just stick your finger in and you'll know if it is hot enough!! (not whilst it is going though ;D ;D).  1 tablespoon seems a lot for 1 mugful as I would only normally use 1 teaspoon but it was fine.  Will be using this as a treat only though - too much caffeine for a regular cuppa.

I tried this out this arvo. Yummmmmmy! I made the full quantity because I'm going to refridgerate it for ice coffee. I used less milk (about 650g) and made up the rest with water because I couldn't be bothered getting a new bottle of milk out. Worked beautifully.

This sounds lovely.  When it is my turn to buy the coffees at Monkey Mia I will have to cheat and make them in the Thermomix. ::)

I have a feeling that's what will happen. My consultant has retired so I'll have to put them all on to Baf65.

Found it! Its from an amazing cook in Canary Islands, I love reading through her blog! Rincon de Bea...
Here it is...

INGREDIENTS:
1  cup of skimmed powdered milk
1 cup instant drinking cocoa
¾ cup of instant coffee (norrmal o decaffeinated)
½ cup sugar
½ tspn cinnamon
¼ nutmeg

PREPARACIÓN:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl (Guess you can mix in Thx too, Speed 2 to 3) Keep in glass jar to avoid any moisture.
To make a cappuccino just add 2 teaspoons to cup of boiling water.

Had all the ingredients for this so did it as soon as I read this thread.  DH said he 'wouldn't leave home for a cup of it' and I found it unusual to say the least. Sort of reminded me of mulled wine - is there such a thing as mulled coffee ;D ;D  I added milk to the cups after it was made as the powdered milk didn't make it creamy enough.  The jury is still out on this one but as I have a whole container full of the mixture, someone has to drink it :D :D :D and guess who that will have to be :P :P  Be interested to see if anyone else tries it and what they think of it.

Sorry to hear that JD! On her blog it looks lovely! Guess you could always use it to flavour custard or something! :( :( :(

I expected you to say 'make ice-cream' Bron :D :D :D :D but yes, maybe a tablespoon or two in the custard might make an interesting taste. Glad you accept my negative comments gracefully - no point not being honest is there?

I was at my cousins today and it was coffee time, she was using her coffee machine (a well named brand) big impressive thing on the bench (and before my TMX days I was envious :-[)  Well to see it in action was pathetic!! I then suggest should we do the milk in Thermalena, now the shoe is on the other foot with envy!!

Oh and TMX makes a mean latte, and hot choc!!

Im not sure , call me a coffee snob! but the TM just cannot do a proper shot of espresso, and make velvety steamed milk!!!
I still prefer to use my coffee machine for my cappucinos, the most I will do in the TM is grind the fresh roasted beans, and even then Im not so sure the result is as good as a proper grinder!
Sorry I will have to say this is one thing a Thermomix cannot make is a proper good cappucino no matter what they say!! :)))

I am with Judydawn on this one. Made it up but used drinking chocolate instead of cocoa [thought they would both be the same sort of stuff] now have a whole container of it to try and drink. Not very nice.

Maybe it will be better adding 2 tablespoons to boiling milk! Try that one, as you have the jar full! I bet that will be nice, all done on speed 4 so that it is frothy. Use skimmed milk! Let me know if its any better! ???

Tried it Bron, much better with milk.  Put 300g milk and 2 tablespoons of the mixture into TM bowl, heated for 5 minutes on 80o speed 4 and increased speed to 8 for the last 20 seconds. Made a large mugful.

Sounds a bit like the coffee mixes that my staff use.  JD & Sandy - was sit the nutmeg and cinnamon that you didn't like?  Our staff can't stand the French Vanilla flavour.

May be worth trying without the flavourings?

Looks like JD has posted while I've been typing - good to hear you like it now  ;D

I have found out a way to use up that coffee mixture that Bron posted and that I didn`t like. Just made the easy chocolate cake and instead of using cocoa powder put 2 tablespoons of the mix  in and it made the cake turn out real fudgy and yummy. So I hope that others can use this idea as well. Sandy
