Title: Pizza dough help
Post by: dede on February 25, 2012, 06:21:17 am
Hi everyone, just wanted to get some advise on how you make a nice round pizza base. Do you roll it with a rolling pin or push it out to shape with the palm of your hand or throw it in the air like you see on tv to shape it nice and round? ( I would love to throw it in the air like that but I'm scared it will end up on the ceiling or floor lol)
Normally I use a rolling pin to get a kind of round base, last night I just used the palm of my hand to shape it to a kind of round shape. Is there a right way or a wrong way?

Go on Mandi, be a devil and give tossing one a go  :D  I can never get mine into an even round shape so will be interested in the answers to this one  :-))  Rustic is good though, they all taste the same whether they be round, square or however they end up.

Well good to know I'm not the only one that can't get good round pizzas. They disappear very quickly no matter what they look like. I havnt brought pizza in a very long time as they are so quick and easy to make and taste fantastic.
Judy every time I make pizza dough I am so tempted to throw it in the air. The kids dare me every time.

I roll them into roundish shapes and don't get any complaints. Have just rolled and had 8 demolished in half an hour by DS and friends!

I generally get mine fairly round. I start by shaping lump of dough into a small disc. Then i turn the dough round and round folding the edges under to get a nice round shape (no point making a ball as you then flatten it anyway). At that point I roll out the dough on baking paper. By doing this I can continually turn the dough without it sticking to the bench. I roll from the centre to the edge, turn, roll, turn. This way it seems to stay fairly round. Hope I've explained it clearly enough.

Hmmm round - yes I do have a problem rolling a round base *grin*.  So I decided I should have a pizza base that fits the pan.  I only have a very wee oven so I go for the swiss roll tin - still tastes great :D

Thanks fundj, this worked really well. I got a pretty round base. Not to bad if I say so myself. :)
