Loved making both of these. I'm always happy around spices for some reason :D
Anyway, in the paste I used 1 less dried chilli than stated and will reduce by one more next time. It wasn't overly spicy, but I think it would be better with just that bit less hit for us.
The recipe makes roughly 150g of paste so I've frozen the rest in 2 lots of 50g for future uses.
For the soup, I would also reduce the tamarind puree to 3 tsp, again just a personal taste.
I used coconut milk that I'd made previously and chicken stock as the liquid.
A nice change to pumpkin soup that I would be happy to make and serve again. ;D

We've enjoyed this one. I made it from the recipe at one of Tenina's earlier classes. The soup one.

I bought the book today and had the pumpkin soup for dinner - thought I'd share my pics…

It looks delicious davemack. Great to see you posting reviews after just joining.
-
looks lovely. great idea to freeze the paste, might be good also to do that with half the unami.
-
I froze all my umami CP - so easy to take out a cube and just throw it in and not even have to think about how long ago you made it.
-
I freeze my uami, all curry pastes etc.
I havent made the yellow paste yet, but I am sure it would be good in a curry.

Great pics!!! I also freeze the pastes but Judy thought your idea about the cubes was a good one. I do that for curry paste but never thought to do it for umami!!!!

Beautiful pictures, JulieO and Davemack.

Not sure where I can get dried chilli. Will fresh be ok? Anyone want to guess the quantity I would need.

Hi rs, welcome to the forum with your first posting. Why not pop over to Introduce Yourself and tell us a bit more about yourself.
I bought a huge packet of dried chillies from an Indian supermarket - do you have one near you at all. Even an Asian store should stock it.
-
They also sell them in Woolies now (Asian section near coconut milk etc). I bought a big bag for less than $5.

After I attended Tenina's "Thai Thai Again" class today I was inspired to make the yellow curry paste to put in "Coconut and Chicken soup". It was sensational. A big hit in our household tonight.

Mrs KK, that looks really nice.
I missed out on the class, all booked out >:(
