Title: mat for prooving breadmix
Post by: ultraviolet on February 13, 2012, 11:19:32 am
Hi - not sure if this has been covered - did a search but couldn't find anything....

At the TMX demo the demonstrator used a ?silicone? mat to prove the breadmix... it apparently locks in the heat and speeds up the prooving.

I don't particularly need the TMX branded one.... wondering where I can buy something similar? either online or in WA.... ?

TIA :)

Bella.

Kitchenware Direct or Everten Online stock them (both online) but I don't know if they're exactly the same.

The Thermomix Australia one is called a Thermomat.  You can now buy them online at http://www.thermomix.com.au for the full price of $60 or sometimes (not often) they're also on offer at e-Bay.  If you host a Varoma demo you can pick one up for $40 co-payment.

Hiya

I bought mine from Ebay last year.  Could be worth a try if there is any in stock.  Good luck!

Most kitchen shops stock similar mats (silicone ) so if you have one nearby have a look (much cheaper)

Are Silpats similar? I bought mine off an American site on eBay last month for approx $25. Worth every penny...use it all the time for baking. Have not used it for proving.

the TMX mat is wonderful.  It is a dream to use, and washes easily.  BUT I never wrap  my bread dough in it.  I usually leave the dough in the TMX bowl.  I have several other mats but none as good as the TMX one,  worth every cent of $60.

I must agree with Chookie. I didn't buy one for a couple of years until a friend persuaded me. Now I wouldn't swap it. JUST DON'T CUT ON IT.

Use the TMX spatula to "cut" on the breadmat. Works a treat. (saw this at a TMX cooking class)

You can buy a plastic dough scraper/cutter for $1.

djinni373, just in case you don't already know - if you host a Varoma demo you can obtain the Thermomat as a Host reward.  Even if no one buys, you only pay $40 then.  :)  I thought of you and my friends on this thread last night at my TMX demo when I plopped out the bread mixture.

At todays class Tenina used her spatula from Helene to cut on the bread mat. It looks perfect for that too.

I am using my mat for the first time on some bread dough. I wrapped it up and when I came back to check on it the dough was oozing out the edges...is this normal or is there some technique to using these?

Thanks

Absolutely normal as it rises.

Well all I can say is thank god I put the wrapped dough into a tray - it oozed a lot and I was rising it in the bath tub (empty) because it gets lots of sun! Could have been messy!

Thanks :)
