Title: Re: new TM mum
Post by: Lindsay on February 01, 2012, 05:43:30 am
Hi my name is Lindsay and have only just really started playing with my TM. I had it delivered and then 1 week later I had to pack it up :( as we were just moving to Lihir in PNG! I was so excited when my container arrived and was opened. My parents were over at the time from the UK. For my first meal out of my TM I decided to make butter chicken and then a yummy chocolate cake, my mum was so impressed that when she got back to the UK she decided to order one for herself, it is being delivered tomorrow!!!

Where I live, food shopping is quite an experience and unfortunately I'm unable to get some of the ingredients in the recipes but on the other hand, what I can get I can make meals that are of restaurant standards  ;D

There are so many nice recipes out there I'm not sure what to cook. If anyone has any recommendations, please share them with me, oh and one other thing I have an extremely fussy eater (my son) so if you know of any recipes where you can't see any veggies, please let me know.  :)

Hello and welcome Lindsay. There are several ways to disguise veges. Meatloaf, spag bol, muffins and there are even recipes for cakes with vegetables in them. Does your son like any potatoes? You can always blend some vegetables and add it to mashed potato. Good luck and check out CPs favourite list for some good recipes to start with http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0

take care and happy cooking

Welcome Lindsay. There's quite a bit of discussion on here about hiding vegies. Here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=8602.0) is one of them.

Hi Lindsay, welcome to the forum.  It's great to hear you can get enough ingredients to rustle up a wonderful meal and I'm sure you will become very adept at substituting ingredients as well.  Lovely that Mum is getting one too, guess she will be joining us here on the forum as well.  Good luck with hiding the vegies.

Hi Lindsay, I am also a new thermomixer, welcome. I made a chocolate cake with red kidney beans in it and it was delicious. Nobody could tell, the texture was different and that's about all. It was like a chocolate mud cake and so easy to do. It was an excellent way to hide kidney beans:).

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. I'm going to have a go today at making the chocolate chip cookies with chick peas, I'll let you know how I get on and when I find red kidney beans I'm going to have a go at making the chocolate cake. I can't wait to feed them to my tribe and see what they think  ;)

Welcome Lindsay, interesting posts about the chick peas and red kidney beans, might have to give these a try too, I would love to see the Gk's faces after eating them when I tell them what was in the goodies. Best not I suppose ,they won't trust me when i make anything else. Enjoy.

I think I might have turned a corner with my extremely fussy son, nearly everything I've made in my TMX he has eaten and has asked for more! I made a chicken risotto tonight and he even ate that. I made bolognaise sauce for a pasta bake a few days ago, he initially turned his nose up but when he tried it he asked if he could take some to school the following day and he wasn't bothered it would be cold! Everyone is going to think I exaturate but I really don't care  ;D

That's great Lindsay!  How old is DS? - they do go through fussy stages and sometimes realise that the food they though they hated is in fact quite nice (long list of 'I didn't think I liked it but now I do' in my family!). Glad the Thermomix is making life easier!

He is 6. Moving to a 3rd world country did worry me which shouldn't have done, I'm just so glad I invested in my TMX, it has made life so much easier, the hard choice now is just trying to decide what to cook with the ingredients I can get hold of.

Lindsay in my experience you find as you go along to either substitute or find what the locals use living in another country... It took me a while to afjust with ingredients t firt snd finding out where to find ingredients and wht they are called... If you know any other expats pick their brains if yo havent already... Enjoy the experience...
