hi everyone....
so im just wondering how long custard made in thermie would last, or be safe for my 12month old to eat?
its not a every night thing for her, but i figure if i can make it and store it its way better than buying it for her, and i can control how much sugar is in it as well ;)
also how would i stop it from getting that skin that forms on it??
many thanks! :)

i usually go by the freshness of the eggs and milk and to stop the skin from forming i use glad wrap on top of the custard so the wrap touches the custard then the container if u no what i mean

Definitely use the cling film (glad wrap) to cover the custard before it cools down too much and the skin won't form. Also, I wouldn't keep fresh custard more than a day or so in the fridge, even though the eggs are cooked. I don't know about freezing custard as I can never make enough- it always gets eaten before there is a chance to get loads of leftovers.

thanks for ur replies!
im sure DH wont mind having custard every 3 or so nights so DD can have some! :D

Mine only ever lasts a day or two. The glad wrap on the surface is definitely the way to stop the skin forming.

You can also sprinkle sugar on top of the custard to stop the skin forming. I prefer this to using glad wrap but I should mention that any custard I make doesn't even make it to the fridge. :)

thanks djinni373 will try it next time ;D

If I put glad wrap on my custard I would get shot!! They fight over the skin in this house :-)) :-))

I usually put a disk of grease proof or baking paper onto the surface of the custard as I don't like putting plastic wrap onto hot custard. When it cools I then put a liid on the container, or use plastic wrap over the container (but not in contact with the surface of the custard).
