It might just thicken up once it has been in the fridge for a while Hally.

Thanks JD, was going to take it out with us, but no.
I hav added garlic, spring onion & parmesan cheese, the taste is just ok but still runny, even added a bit of crnflour.
I will see what its like later.
I hate mishaps, such a waste of money >:(
I was trying to make te one we had at dinner, was told caramelised onions, sour cream & cream cheese. Tasted awful my batch, so added coriander, just ok.
Have now thrown it out in disgust!!

I'm with you Helly I hate it when things go wrong especially when you are relying on them to take somewhere, were the onions still warm when you added them that would have made the sour cream go runny. Hope you can think of something else to take, but I suppose you have used your ingredients now.
-
No more ingredients, sent dh to the shops to buy the sour cream.
Yes i dont understand how it didnt taste good, all ingriendts nice, and I used what the chef had said. Maybe too much sour cream, but rhe taste wasnt good eifher.
No onions were cold so that wasnt it.
Never mind move on and I wont be trying that again.

I think too much sour cream. If you have another 250g of cream cheese, put it in the TMX and add the original mix 1 spoonful at a time and zap it until it is still thick but tastes Ok. The only other thing I can think of is to turn it out on to several layers of hand towel and see if that will soak up some of the liquid. Hally , you need some chooks. ;D
-
Thanks chookie, all in the bin. I didnt want to keep adding and wasting so i decided to quit, i thought about the extra cream cheese but said no, throw out now before this dip costs $20!!
You win some & loose some, many more wins than losses :D
It was just this french onion dip was the best I have ever tasted and it was caramelised onions, cream cheese & sour cream, nothing else.

Hally, blast, too late.!!!! Just thought you could thicken with gelatin . :o
-
Yes too late.
Frustration got the better of me, i have now emailed the restaurant asking them for the recipe. We will see if they respond.
Can only ask............

I would have added dried onion flakes. That would increase the French Onion flavour. I bet he added some beef stock powder too for extra flavour. How frustrating for you! Hope you get the recipe.

Thanks MJ, will let yiuball know if Inhear back.

a little chef tip, some mashed potatoe would have done the trick.
-
Great tips MJ and Uni.

Definitely try the gelatine next time. Mashed potato also works well. I do a taramasalata dip with mashed potato instead of bread as I am gluten free and this works really well. Better luck next time!
-
Uni, the mashed potato sounds interesting, do you mean to add it for thickening the dip made with creamed cheese and can you use it with other ingredients.
-
Brenda you can use it with any type of dip gives a nice creamy textrue
shhhhhhhhh dont tell anyone my DS some times adds mash to his mayo :-))
-
Never thought about adding mashed potato to my mishaps. What about some Deb instant mash in the cupboard for just such occasions. I will put it on the shopping list to try. Hate waste too. :)
