I love my TMX and find I do not use any other appliance other than a beater. HOWEVER, I do miss not having an electric grater and slicer since I gave away my cumbersome Moulinex! I went to Victoria's Basement thinking I could find a small appliance which fits the bill - but alas to no avail! Any ideas for a product that may cater for my needs? I do not want the ones which practically slice off you finger...mandolin?!!!

Hi Courton - is this anything like what you're looking for?

i love my food slicer
i slice bread for crostini, meat, eggplants, zucchini, cheese, fruit etc etc
-
I've got a slicer that's exactly like in the link only another brand. Used it today actually. I bought a lovely block of ham yesterday (on special after Christmas) and today I sliced it very thin and then vacuum packed in amounts enough for 2 persons and put in the freezer.
-
Great to grate a large amount of onions for a BBQ ;D
-
How about a Tefal Express. It's simply a small electric grater and slicer with a variety of different blades. I'm not good with links, but if you google it, I'm sure you'll find one. Price around $70 or so. Looks like a good little thing if you've got lots to do.

Oh gosh not more shopping to buy ;D ;D
H :)
At first I didnt like the grated cheese in Tm, but now happy with it :)

Found a link for you

I love my mandolin for slicing potatoes, onions etc. For grating, I generally use the Thermomix.
-
I can't go past the Borner V slicer - the safety holder is a must though. Love the "roko" accessory for a very fine julienne. Apparently you can also get "cut and slash resistant" gloves from Amazon

The TEFAL mini processor is $79 here
http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Tefal-Fresh-Express-Mini-Food-Processor
It's free shipping over $100 so just browse around and see if there's something you couldn't ever possibly live without for around $20 ;D ;D
-
OMG you are bad, very bad people ;)
Now I think I need one of these mini processors, but I have just convinced DH that I need an ice cream maker and my tupperware slicer is doing the job OK so I better hold off a while before mentioning the food processor
-
The collective knowledge of this forum amazes me! Thank you Merrilyn and others. The tefal sounds the way to go. Have you used it and is it easy to use?
-
My sister bought one of the tefal slicers but ended up returning it after reading reviews that canned it. Apparently the blades aren't sharp enough to do a good job.
-
I have a tefal slicer and am quite happy with it. I gave my food processor away when I got the thermomix and I like sliced potato, celeriac etc in gratins rather than the grated versions in thermomix.
-
Moulinex do make à mini one with différent mini attachements !..its all vert compact!..think its called fresh express or something
-
I have the Tefal Express and I love it. For me its a great combo with the TM I wanted one of the V Slicer ones to be honest they scare the crap out of me and a good one is alot of $$. I mainly use it for grated carrot bettroot and cheese it will slice cucumber and carrot and zuchini nicely but not slice meat. I wanted it for presentation for salads etc and it grates vegetables beautifully. The parts go in the dishwasher so its a really easy clean up at the moment I am using it everyday ( summer in Australia ) for me its a winner!
-
The Moulinex Fresh Express looks the same as the Tefal Slicer and is the same size. Moulinex is $111.00 and Tefal is $79.00.
The extra $30.00 would be worth it if it's superior quality. I use my Tefal about 2-3 times a week and so far it's been fine. Only time will tell.
-
I have a V-slicer, and it only cost me $12. I really like the look of those other things but this does the job, as I would only use about once a week.
-
I love the look of those gloves. I love my v-slicer but after slicing through my thumb nail I'm very wary of it even using the safety. Does anyone know if you can purcahse the gloves in Australia?
-
I'm certainly getting a pair, Wonder. I only came across them accidentally on Amazon . . . haven't been able to find them on an Aust. website. Even with the Amazon shipping it'd be worth it just for the added protection - they've certainly received good reviews . .
-
If you Youtube both the Moulinex and the Tefal you get the same adds just different names I can only "assume " they are distributed under Tefal in Australia? They look identical.
-
Does the Tefal Express slice and grate potatoes easily?
-
I also had a look at those gloves and wondered the same thing Wonder.
I did notice that nsell make Mechanical protection - cut resistance gloves.
Look up http://ansell.com.au/products/transport and you can download a data sheet.
-
I love my mandolin for slicing potatoes, onions etc. For grating, I generally use the Thermomix.
Ditto! Also love my global knife.
-
Hmm, the Tefal Slicer & Grater looks excellent. I think I'd still use my mandolin for slicing, but sometimes I want proper grated cheese rather than the little balls that you get with the Thermomix.
Best price is here (http://www.billyguyatts.com.au/kambrook-dual-food-processor-kfp100-10506.html?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Small+Kitchen+Appliances&utm_term=Tefal+Fresh+Express+Mini+Food+Processor+MB750)
I know that Tefal is a cheap brand, it's Kambrook, but I've had a Kambrook Coffee Percolator and Sandwich Maker for years and years. They both would be still going if my son hadn't cooked the cord of the Sandwich Maker! The Coffee Percolator gets used every day and it's 22 years old.
Just found a better deal here (http://www.powerbuys.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/2245/s/tefal-fresh-express-food-processor-mb750/?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Small+Kitchen+Appliances&utm_term=Tefal+Fresh+Express+Food+Processor+MB750) because postage is a flat rate across Australia. The previous one I mentioned was going to cost $23.75 to post!
-
megan i grated a few kg a week for DS. the trick is to do a 2 handfulls at a time, finely grated parmesan cheese every time :)
-
Tefal and moulinex are pretty much thé same hère so IF thé Tefal one does thé job and its thé same think but cheaper id go with that...moulinex definately Is not à high quality brand but thé same as Tefal, bréville and all those ones ,
-
