Title: Thermi in the papers
Post by: Lucyluu on January 08, 2012, 01:05:43 am
Article about George Calombaris in the Home magazine of Saturdays Herald Sun.
Back page shows George in his kitchen with the Thermomix on his work bench. It's a great advert, George tells how he uses it everyday.  Just like me, (in the fact that I use mine everyday that is, not that he cooks like me or anything, I would hope he is a better cook than me which I' sure he'd have to be to be famous and all). Sorry,... but it's worth having a look at anyway.

I'd like to see that. It is good to see the TMX in the paper.

Lucyluu in 2010 when George was over here for the Good Food and Wine show he was on stage for his cooking segment with Gary and couldn't put the lid on his TMX. He was asking for help from the audience. Gary eventually did it for him. I thought it was hilarious.

He also seemed to have trouble getting the lid on when they used it on Masterchef, it makes me think that he is paid to advertise it but doesn't actually use one  - surely if you had used one even a couple of times you would know how to put the lid on and off?

Was he doing it backwards? Standing behind the machine like a demonstrator? It is harder to do it in reverse even for a seasoned user ;)

sometimes it is still hard to do it in reverse even when you have been doing it for a few years regularly  :-)) :-)) those are the days you just want to pack up and go home!!

No he was in front of the machine. My thoughts were that he doesn't really use it that much. That was 18 months ago and I didn't think anything less of him at all. He is the chef and probably wouldn't be making sauces etc. I feel he can see how useful the machine is without having to use it every day.

Reading todays paper there is a tiny bit about how thermomixing is to be one of the 'new' things for 2012. Along with South American food and a couple of other things.

Well George & his partner have had a baby, so maybe his mind was elsewhere.

Quite possibly, although it was a couple of years before baby was born.

For anyone who gets Masterchef Magazine, the Thermomix is mentioned on Page 136 of the April issue.  It is part of the last bite column where they briefly interview a chef.  This issue it's New Zealand based chef Simon Wright.  When asked what is his most used kitchen tool he replies "Thermomix.  We use it for everything".

I recently read an article where Grace Mazur was quoted as saying the one of the best things she's done was get celebrity endorsement, phrased as "product ambassadors", so I expect these celebrity chefs are being 'rewarded' for their endorsements.

The Age Epicure lift out Tuesday March 27th 2012

Justin Wise, (Executive chef of The Point ), was asked what his fav kitchen gadget is,
" Thermomix- it's so versatile. You can use it to make anything from beetroot puree to a sweet curd."
Just thought I'd let you know. That other chefs are spreading the word.
Apparently he was named young chef of the Year in 2009 by The Age Good Food Guide.

I did read this article. I never miss the Epicure section in The Age. My pride did swell a bit when I saw the TM mentioned!
