I am very conscious of the steam emanating from TMX and if it is going to damage the laminated cupboards above the bench top. Am I the only one worried about this possibility and people who have owned the machine for far longer than I have... Is this an issue? I tried placing it close to the range hood...it only helps or a certain extent when you cook items such as rice.

I don't have mine below cupboards Courton, it is on an open area at the end of the sink. I would be a little concerned myself but others who have theirs under cupboards may be able to give their opinions on this matter. I would have thought if you have the exhaust fan on in your range hood, it would take the steam away but obviously not all of it by your comments.

I worry about this too, but don't have anywhere else in the kitchen I could put the Tmx without having cords draping everywhere.
I just put it as far from the cupboard as I can and wipe the steam off when I walk past.

i would think that over the years it would do some damage to the laminate. i have mine at the end of the sink 2

Understand your concern. I sit my TM on a breadboard on the far side of my stove top under the rangehood when I cook with it. :)

I always have my range hood on and it seems to get rid of most of the steam and so far over almost 18 months the cupboards are OK. I store the TM on the bench pushed back against the splash back when not in use and bring it forward when cooking to minimize any possible damage to the overhead cupboards but there is always still a small amount of steam which condenses there and I just wipe it down as much as possible. I also use the MC on as much as I can to minimize the steam.

Courton I share your problem and was always very aware of it. I now lift my TMX out from under the overhead cupboards into the corner where there are no cupboards, Iwould imagine that it would cause the wood to swell and look very yukky.

I also have mine on the bench next to the stove. When cooking somethng that produces alot of steam, I put it on my glass stove top and make sure the range hood is on.

I have an electric hot plate flat glass top. I am afraid to put the legs on it in case it damages the surface. You do not have any problems with doing this Cookie?

Courton, so far no damage done. If you are worried, put a silicone chopping board or your thermomat under the TMX

The steam has already damaged the base of the cupboards above my TMX :-\ I now move it right out to the front of the bench when cooking.

I have a huge Jamie Oliver chopping board (about 5 - 6 cm thick and as square as the TMX base) that I had my husband screw handles on each side. The TMX sits on that and that way I can move it around on the bench by sliding using the handles. Don't need to worry about damaging the feet or the scales this way as it permanently lives on the board. I also find that when I want to look in to the top, and as I am not that tall, I need the TMX at the front of the bench to see - I just slide it over and then back again when I am finished. Same goes with the TMX under the cupboards - out to cook and back again later.

I wanted to place my TMX under cupboards but when my consultant did the delivery demo she advised against it so now it sits on a tiny bit of open bench space that I have, in front of some windows. My girlfriend kept hers inside her pantry most of the time so she could shut the door on it to minimise the noise. She always took it out of the pantry to cook with and placed it on a board on her stove top with the rangehood on.
I am planning my new kitchen and the TMX is a key consideration. I was thinking of having a butlers pantry like my mum, but not sure I want to allocate that much room to it.

I have a gas stove so never thought of putting the Tmx on top of it, but on top of a wooden cutting board sounds like a great idea. I even have one I harldy use, perfect. :)
