Wow, sounds like you have a couple of 'hoovers' there! How old are they Hally? And enjoy the wine, you deserve it!
-
First thing you need to do Hally, is get them in the kitchen doing the cooking! Make sure they clean up afterwards, though!
-
Glad everything is working out well between the lads Hally - keep cooking, you enjoy it ;)
-
Deedub is 8 but eats like an adult, eb is 12. I think all the pool time is making them very hungry, ,
afyernoon tea, rice crackers, veggie sticks, assorted salamis etc plus muffins, all gone.
Just about to sit down to lasagna, luckily i am not hungry as filled up on nibbles, so see how the lasagna goes :)

I can remember when my DS was in his teens I always plated up two dinners for him. :o He ate the first plate of food with us and would microwave the second later in the evening when he was "starving" :-))
-
Stop! You are scaring me! I have 3 boys but they are not huge eaters... Yet! :-[

-
Yes JD you are right there.
Eb leaves here next tuesday at 5pm, I have to drive him to a camp, i am sure he will like it there, its down at point walter & they do lots of activities, from there I am not sure where he goes home or somewhere else, will find out today. His case worker is popping in for a cuppa and a chat.
Its all good having him here.
H :)

Have muffins, scones & fried rice already to go, plus shortbread. Bol sauce already made for dinner.

Not ahead anymore, about even now. Food nearly all gone.
Well blow me down, eb loved the chicken tika kebabs & crown prince who wont touch anything spicy ate 1/2 a kebaab too.
Love eb, he eats everything, bless.
Back to baking tomorrow arvo after gym.
H :)
Thought I was smart and cooked more meat than needed, ALL GONE!!!!!
Another day aenother cook up, so going to miss this next week :(
-
lol make the most of it Hally - especially when it is appreciated as well. ;) ;)
Mine take it for granted sometimes until someone asks if they eat like this ALL the time ... they then have to sheepishly reply with a yes :D :D
-
Yes Faffa, I am loving it, will miss eb next week.
Spoke to his case worker today and have asked if we can have him on a regular basus. He is a lovely lad, good influence on crown prince & a delight to cook for. I asked him if he always eats so mch, the answer was No, but its good here, so I said just tell me if your hungry & I can cook book, he said cool but I am really full all the time.. Bless
Now adice please,
He is off to camp, do I make cookies, cakes etc for him to take. I woud be upset if he was the only boy with no contraband.
Thanks
Xx
-
Hally it would be fabulous if you could have EB on a regular basis - and great for him too (that little more stability in life - you are a fantastic family :))
Hmm camp ... to be honest I don't know but hey why not send him to camp with some personalised packaged love ;) ;) If he can't have it they will only take it off him, perhaps be allergy aware and no nuts. Hopefully others can shed more light for you :)
-
Yes eb loves it here, Faffa you are too kind :), gosh my kind with my typing nearly went to kinky!!LOL oh dear, such is life with my ipad.
I kind of figure will give him some things, then do a few cakes, no nuts good idea, so at least he will be popular from the start :)
Golden syrup cake x2 to share, plus goodies for him :)
H :)
-
EB is very lucky to have landed at your place Hally! I hope he can be a regular part of the family! :-*
-
Thanks Ceejay, we hope so too. All we can do is say yes we woud love him to come and stay, we were hoping that maybe this time next year we will be able to take him on holidays with us.
We go up to Kalbarri in January each year :)
H :)
-
They generally like something small that they can hide and eat all the time...especially during the night. The eB sounds lovely and is probably yearning for stability. I usually load dd with lollies for camp...so something along those lines may be an option.
-
:) Hally, its great what you are doing for EB.
bake him some cakes and cookies.
Robyn
-
I might put my name on the list to be fostered for a week per year at your place Hally - I know I would be pampered and well fed ;)
Great job you and the rest of the family are doing and EB will never forget the time he spent with you all. :-* :-*
-
Hally if its the camp run by Uni Camp For Kids, they wouldn't be so strict about bringing in some outside food. I think it would be unusual if anything because these kids have been picked by counsellers. My DD's have been a part of this worthy organisation for years and they have said they have met some kids from very unfortunate backgrounds. They rave about how well mannered, best behaved and easy to please these kids are. The trouble usually starts though when its time to go home :'(
Some All of the things that they have told me make me feel very sad. UCFK has been around for many years and are basically self funded and rely heavily on donations, uni students give up their jobs a few weekends a year and a week over the school hols to give these kids a good time and they pay for petrol and snacks from their own money. The kids love these camps, and it would be a great escape from normal life. It would probably make Eb feel very good to have some lovely food to share for once. Poor little mite.
-
Ooh yes Hally. Make him some lovely goodies to take away with him on camp. Bless you all for having him, he sounds as though he has fitted in well.
-
JD you dont have to go on any list, just turn up, your over 18. LOL
I hace decided to make 2 cakes to drop off at the kitchen.
Other items will be bought as I am not sure where they will get stored, dont want food going off and eb & friends getting sick.
Lollies, ores, chips, shapes, its only 4 days so he wont need too much, but enough to share :)
CP dont know who runs it etc, just been givem date, time & dropoff, I will probably have tears in my eyes.
I can hear them playing & laughing on the wii upstairs, its nice to hear.
H :)
-
Today is eb's last day.
Off to beach for vac swim, meeting up with friends so taking a picnic.
Made 2 cakes to take today, but we ate one!!! Well one is better than nine.

-

Yes already spoken to his foster mum re more visits and also our 2 families having a get together, she seemed keen too.
Plus told eb he could ring us whenever he wanted too as long as it was ok with his foster mum.
Oh well spent this evening compiling recies to make with my cow :D
H :)
-
a cow is no replacement for EB though Hally :-* :-* :-* - don't get carried away cooking or you will need him back to help clean out the freezers again :-)) :-))
Hugs for your special family tonight :)
-
Yes faffa, a cow is no replacement. Yes Li have to watch my cooking as we aways have left overs but with eb here nibe.
I have been picking a cucumber from the garden everyday, today I did the same, we have been using 1 per dinner, tonight there was someleft, eb's share :( also made us all sandwiches, dh too, with cooked chicken breasts, enough left over for eb's round.
How easy it s to get into cooking for 4.

I thought I had taken enough for a week not a long weekend.
We all had a great time.
Eb just loved the resort we were in, he had never been anywhere like that.
H :)
-
Due to your kindness, that will be something for him to remember Hally - it must have been a very special time for EB in particular who seems to have missed out on things in life we take for granted. That amount of food would last us 2 at least 2 weeks, probably longer - glad I don't have your housekeeping expenses ;D :-* :-*
-
Boys can sure consume heaps of food, I think they just inhale it lol. If it wasn't nailed down my son would eat it, I use to leave notes in the fridge telling him not to eat this it's our dinner. After he came home from school one day and eat our dinner, for an afternoon snack, I think he had a mate to help him. Once he moved out our food bill dropped dramatically, now we have left overs.
-
Hally I'm sure didn't go to waste so what the heck. I imagine EB loves your food and can't get enough of it. He probably tells everyone about the things you give him to eat. You are special for him.
-
Lol Hally, now that's a huge list. Surely my lot don't eat that much (although I don't write it down) don't think I would like to write it down either, it would scare me.
I do know I cook lots on a Sunday just for school/work lunches and it's gone before Friday (and I usually don't eat any of it)
You done a great job keeping up with them.
-
No nothing went to waste, just surprised at how much was consumed. They were very active, tennis early morning, mini golf & swimming all day.
Gosh when they are both teenagers will have to re-mortgage the house.
Thanks all.
We enjoy having him too.
H :)
-
All normal and yep only gets worse :-)) :o ;D
-
Faffa, thats a lot of food.
Just as well i buy my meat in bulk!!!
H :)
-
That's completely normal for boys, Hally! I have 3 that eat huge amounts and often!!! Lucky you only have the one full time!
-
Hally you wait ... it goes something like this
have main meal, leave table, 20 minutes later, open fridge, open pantry, open fridge again (something may have magically appeared since they last looked) open pantry again (ditto for fridge) ... MUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM what can I have to eat, I"M STARVING!!!!!!!
Then repeat all over again the next hour ... and even the middle of the night. It never ends ;)
-
Godness Hools & Faffa,
I really thought I was well ahead at the weekend and woud be bringing a lot of meat home, but nooo.
I diont mind, very happy it was all eaten, just amazed at how much could be consumed!!LOL
If it was going in the bin through greed that woukd be different.
I think eb will be with us for 7-10 days april school holidays.
Mmm better start planning freezer food now!!LOL
H :)
-
Haha Kathryn that is soooo true here too. I send the kids to mums for a night or two and just laugh when she brings them home, saying, they don't ever stop eating do they? Ummm, no they don't. I'm just thankful that we didn't go for number 4 cos I know it would have been another BOY!
-
Hools, no.4, you woukd be broke!!!
Faffa, Hools, Dede What are your fav meals to fill them up? Would love to make a few for the freezer.
H :)
-
For me I reckon the best meal that always leaves us very full is a good old fashion roast with roast veggies and gravy. Then maybe followed with a hot dessert and Icecream.
It's an easy meal and everyone loves a roast meal.
Other than that most of our meals are meat and lots of veggies.
Weekends quiet often are more simple meals like pizza (I usually make 4) or just toasted sandwiches, or a BBQ and salad etc etc.
The hardest part I find is the snack food the kids eat, they seem always hungry day and night. Dosnt take them long to Demolish what ever I make.
-

Oh Hools 4 boys and then my little princess is number 5 here ;D ;D On a good day she can eat as much as her brothers!!
Hally meat and lots of veges, pasta, rice and chick peas in this house :D We don't really have favourites as I am always making something new and if it doesn't fill them up as much as I think, then I make dessert.
I always have yoghurt in the fridge that they can have with stewed or tinned fruit, rice pudding (fills them up nicely!!) and of course the obligatory baking that I do each week like Dede.
-

faffa have you made the Strawberry Yoghurt Sorbet from QFITTM yet? Very nice!
-
It doesn't get better quickly. My DS 22yrs drops by with his mates and they can
put away a lot of food. CP will have to try the strawberry yoghurt sorbet - sounds very nice.
-
Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.
I am getting organised next week for his visit after Easter. We leave for our cruise in 2 weeks, then we are home 1 or 2 days and he is here again. So want to have some food in the freezer to go. We still have 4 roasts left, 2 lamb & 2 beef, so will use 2 of them. Plus will have lasagna, alyces pasta from QFITT goes a long way, beef & ale pie from FFS. I am hoping we have left overs from dinner for lunch. I found some osso bucco cuts in the freezer. Slow cooking will be easy too. Buy a chicken & make fried rice. I also remember seeing on here a version of 2 minute noodles. If I can have soe mains ready to go, I can make desert every other day. Also cookies, cakes etc in the freezer.
Ebs fav meat is lamb, so might order another one as I only have 2 roasts left.
One reason I have to be prepared, eb likes swimming so I have to spend a fair bit of time out by the pool when I could be cooking.
H :)
Oh ds wasnt hungry at all yesterday ;D i think he overfed himself keeping up with eb.
-
Hally, why don't you take the TMX outside and cook out there whilst keeping an eye on the boys when they are in the pool. ;)
-
Hi Hally, I've been reading this thread and laughing to myself with all the antics. Here's the two minute noodle (http://mythermomixhints.wordpress.com/2011/09/12/more-than-2-minute-noodles/#more-760) link. Hope all goes well.
-
Good idea JD.
Marina ;D thanks for the noodle link.
H :)
-
I can now recommend the chicken rendang from for foods sake, Hally! It is really easy to make the sauce, then shove it in the oven. I made it for tonight but it wasn't going to be ready early enough so made taco mince with tortillas for tonight and will have chicken tomorrow. Well we just got home with the two eldest boys from volleyball tryouts and they were STARVING!! they spotted the chicken and looked at me with puppydog eyes so I said they can share a chicken Maryland. Well they couldn't stop raving about it. DS12 said it was his favourite now! Very favoursome as we've come to expect from Tenina, and not hot at all. 10/10
-
Thanks Hools, its on my to do list. Just need to buy the breast with the bone in. I only have skinless breasts.
H :)
-
Yeah Hally, I very rarely buy chicken on the bone, but the Maryland is leg and thigh and really adds to the flavour!
-
Hools, you inspred me. Looked in cupboards the only 2 items I didnt have were eschallots & the chicken marylands. So used red onion & bought the chicken pices. Its in the oven now. I know its going to be amazing as the aroma from the TM was outstanding. Dinner tomorrow night, not sure f ds will eat it though.
H :)
-
I tend to use whatever type of chicken I have for most recipes. The Dinner Spinner chicken in yoghurt is lovely too.
-
Yes i have done that one too, i think there might be some in my freezer now you mention it!!!! Very nice :)
Confirmed eb will be coming to us in the school holidays for 7-9 days, yay
H :)
