Title: Bland/plain food diet
Post by: Jabejak on December 31, 2011, 11:11:16 am
My DH is recovering from Giardia and needs to eat a plain food diet.

What are some bland foods you can make......I am really struggling with it.

TIA.

I imagine you are Jabejak - none of us particularly like bland food.
I found this statement from this site  (http://www.revolutionhealth.com/healthy-living/parenting/giardiasis?section=section_01)
" Begin eating bland foods, such as rice, dry toast or crackers, bananas, and applesauce the next day or sooner, depending on how you feel. Avoid spicy foods, other fruits, alcohol, and coffee for 2 days and dairy products for 3 days after all symptoms have disappeared."
Your DH may be past the first stage of eating these foods so once he can eat dairy again, it may make it a little easier for you. Someone who may have some knowledge of this problem will come to your aid with some meal suggestions but if he can eat dairy, I'd say scrambled eggs, custard, light soups, tuna mornay.

Hi Jabejak, I had a quick look at the site that JD recommended, I had never heard of Guardia.  I remember someone telling me years ago that grated apple which you let go brown is great for the bowels and stomach so you could mix this with some rice for a bland sweet and some honey, not sugar.   If your DH can tolerate dairy, I wonder is some almond milk would be suitable, then he could have a banana smoothie.   Porridge with honey.  I'm sure other members will give you lots of other suggestions.   Good luck to both of you.

DD picked up Giardia in a north west town some years ago when we were on our way to the Bungle Bungles. Not nice. :'( :'(
