I have a 3.5 month old and I'm after some quick, inexpensive snacks or even meals I can make during the day in the little time I have when she is sleeping?
Any suggestions?
Also, how do I post photos from my camera. I have photobucket. Can I do it through that? I know there is a thread somewhere on this but can anyone just tell me quickly?
-
With photobucket go to the picture you want, go to the bottom links things that drop down and copy the last one.(you just need to click on it). Then return to the forum and paste the photo where you want it. It will come up with the link but then if you click on preview the photo will show in the preview. Then you can post the message.

Have you spoken to your doctor about starting your baby on solids?
i am thinking 3.5 months is to young . Please someone correct me if i am wrong
-
Cookie - thank you. Will try and post one after. Springcleaning atm.
Fundj - Sorry - I probably didn't make myself clear. The snacks are for me, not my baby. I just find that I'm always hungry between meals.

:-[ thats soooooooooo funny

Soup is very quick to make in the tmx and can be as cheap as you like. A little bit of oil or butter really lifts the flavour so don't be tempted to leave it out.
Scones are unreasonably easy and quick to make - a cheese scone with some soup?
I'll come back with more ideas later, with emphasis on quick as I remember having a 3.5 month old and trying to fit in everything I had to when he was asleep. :o

Hi
I have a 20 month old and remember so well when he was that age and only having to time to grab something out the fridge to eat, it's so hard, but it does get easier :)
I like to make this zucchini slice recipe. It makes loads and I just keep it in the fridge and grab slices when I'm hungry and don't have time to prepare anything else. It keeps for about 3-4 days - or you could freeze some - and is so tasty. Only thing is I only got my TMX yesterday so I haven't figured out how to convert it yet! Maybe someone could help? I'll post the recipe anyway it's very simple and I'm sure it would be a breeze in the Thermomix:
ZUCCHINI SLICE
375g zucchini (can substitute some zucchini for carrot)
1 big onion, finely chopped
3 rashers bacon or slices of ham, finely chopped
1 cup grated tasty cheese (or half tasty, half parmesan)
1 cup SR flour, sifted
1/4 cup olive/vegetable oil
4-5 eggs, lightly beaten
Combine in a large bowl the zucchini (& carrot), onion, bacon, cheese, oil and eggs.
Stir through the sifted flour
Season well with salt and pepper
Pour into a greased tin/dish and bake in a moderate oven (180) for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Here it is (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=7634.0) converted for you

Ah, thanks Cream Puff, I'm going to make that today! I will search the forum before posting anything like that again!
Another idea for Tasty is maybe to make up some dips and bread/veggie sticks for easy snacks to grab during the day, can't recommend any at the moment though until I've tried a few.

Ooh that looks very nice. Unfortunately, the need for quick, easy but healthy snacks doesn't diminish as children get older, I have some courgette so shall be making this tomorrow ;D

These are notes I made from Andiesenji for posting from PhotoBucket. I haven't tried it yet, but she is pretty good with her instructions and is tech savvy:
Posting photos from PhotoBucket is very simple.
Click on "Reply"
Just above the line of smileys there are some symbols. The second one from the left is the "Insert Image" symbol.
In a new browser window open PhotoBucket and click on the image you want to post. To the right you will see a window headed "Links"
click on the URL in "Direct link"
Then return to this forum.
After you have typed your description, hit the return for a new line, click on "Insert Image" and paste the URL - that will place it where the cursor is located between the two [img]http://[img] symbols.
Don't type anything else until you mouse click beyond the last img symbol.
Then you can hit return, click on Insert Image again and go back to PhotoBucket, copy the Direct link for another photo and paste it between the two "image" symbols.
Click on Preview to see if your photos show up in your post.
Hope that helps.

Nicola - Although soup can be quick, I prefer it for winter and generally avoid it in summer. Might try the scones out.
MrsL - my neighbour offered me a zucchini from her veggie patch and I rejected it the other day as I didn't think I would be using it. Bugger! Thanks CP too for posting TMX version!
Cullidh - I managed to do it in another thread!

I completely regret not getting my TM31 until my twins were 4 years old. I could have done so much for myself as well as them when they were younger! As mentioned before, soups are quick, cheap and easy but I mostly make them for winter although I made a lovely gazpacho the other day which was delicious just to snack on during a hot day. Also, just making salads ie coleslaw and homemade mayo is so easy. Other ideas would be making bread rolls -knead the dough and let it rise whilst your baby is asleep and then bake them later on. Scones and muffins always go down well. Of course, the other thing that a lot of us do is to cook up a batch of whatever during 'downtime' and freezing things for later ie freeze small portion sizes and reheat them as you need. I still do a big cookup of a few different dishes on the weekend when my husband is around and them reheat food during the week as we need it, altough at this time of year my fridge and freezer space is at a premium! Anyway, there are so many great ideas on the forum, you're bound to incorporate some of them in your repertoire.

It's noisy but I love a banana ice cream on the hot days - I just keep little pieces of banana in the freezer. When they are frozen solid throw about 1 bananas worth into the TMX and blend on speed 8 for 10 - 15 secs and it comes out all whipped and is like soft serve ice cream. It is a refreshing change from just a plain banana.
What about boiled or poached eggs and a slice of toast? http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=287.0. You can even put the varoma on the top and steam a piece of bacon at the same time.
I also used to make up muesli slices filled with nuts, seeds and dried fruits and keep them handy for when I needed to eat something quick but with lots of energy. I haven't tried any of the museli slices on this forum yet so maybe someone else can suggest a good one.
And yoghurt is another good standby - once it's made it will last about 2 weeks in the fridge.
Otherwise I agree with Merlin - when you have time make lots of muffins, scones etc and freeze them individually and then microwave for about 30 secs to a minute when you want to eat.

Uni, you made me laugh- yup 31/2 months a bit young.
I lost 5 kilos in 3 weeks when our babies first came. Best diet I have been on. Quick easy anything is what we all need.

i have a good laugh ever time i see this thread, i am such a loserrrrrrrrrrr ;D and i was not even drinking that day :-))

Agh, perhaps it was my 2 glasses of wine on an empty tummy. Do love you all.

I have ended up making a different version of the zucchini slice since posting this but other than that I've succumbed to temptation especially with all the choccies from Christmas.
although I asked the question, I don't really think I'll go ahead with it but thanks for your suggestions. I have made it my new years resolution thought to at least try one new TMX recipe each week and so far I have done at least one (but usually more) each day. Let's hope it continues.
When I make less main meals using thermie, I might make snacks as well. It just takes me a while to get around to doing it all.

There is a really good Milo Muesli slice on this forum - I would link but I'm not using my mouse and its a bit hard for me at this time of night :D but its probably under my list of favourites. Its even healthier if you make the home made Milo to go in it, and then you can also have a drink of Milo for a snack as well. The slice is delicious, but I wouldn't exactly say its cheap because it uses lots of nuts and stuff -- but its good for you! (I think)

The main thing to remember when you have a young baby is to look after yourself. I used to make mini vegetable muffins, zucchini slice and always have some bananas or berries on hand for a quick smoothie. For lunchtime you could make some scrolls.
If you make things that can be frozen you can then grab one out each morning to defrost.
Also grab some nuts you like and make yourself a little cheese platter with nuts, grapes and crackers. Good for protein.
