I feel silly asking this............when reducing the amount of rice eg 400gms to 200gms - do I reduce the water accordingly also> Or do I just leave it at 900g as per the EDC????
Thanks!!! :D

i would still use the same amount of water, are you using the rice as a side dish?

Thanks for the reply............. I needed to make it before I received a reply and thankfully I went with the whole amount of water.........it's sitting in the server now and appears to have cooked well!!!!! I just wanted to make a small amount for hubby and I as we've been riced out over the last few nights and I don't think I'll use the leftovers tomorrow. I have frozen rice in the past however I don't think it tastes half as nice :-))

U could cook up some mash potatoes add to the rice, add 1 egg, plenty of parmesan, parsley, salt and pepper.roll into a potato croquettes shape while shaping dip your hands in oil and place in fridge for an hour then fry until golden brown
I use the same amount of rice and potatoes
Maybe 1 egg will be 2 much if the mixture is 2 wet add some fresh bread crumbs

also could do some fried rice with the leftovers doing the conventional way...or next time try quirky jo's fried rice (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/08/thermomix-fried-rice.html)

I find frozen rice (thawed) is great for 'normal' type fried rice.

Mmmmmm fundj, they sound great for easy kids dinners and an alternative to crumbed chicken iykwim. Might have to add this one. You could add shredded meat too. I had some left over turkey breast from Xmas and didn't Teninas Vietnamese salad to iChat and the kids lived the shredded meat. (have never thought of is before, done warm chicken salad but always pieces of meat etc)
Of course kids love to be able to chew meat easily, not that the turkey was difficult. It was also delicious... Hmmm somehow I diverge. Lol

I always freeze left over steamed veg and mash and rice and then defrost and combine with tuna or salmon an egg and bread crumbs to make into patties.
As for the rice yes always stay with 900 of water.

I always use 900g water as well only because now that I have quite a few TM recipes I know by heart I always find remembering 900g for the rice an easy one. Isn't it great that we don't need to worry about ratios of rice to water anymore compared to cooking rice with other methods?
