Hi everyone,
I have just received my first parcel of crio bru grounds, and had a couple of cuppas with it today, and it was gorgeous! I have seen a few recipes for cooking with the ground crio beans, and even made a batch of the brownies from Tenina's website today (deee - licious). I was wondering if anyone has ideas what to do with the used grounds that have been used to brew up a chocolate drink. I thought I had read that they can be added to cakes, slices, brownies etc etc, but cant seem to find any specific recipes. I am also not sure if I need to dry them out before using them in cooking.
Thanks!
Karen

I'll be interested to see the answer for this. They taste nice though.

maybe do a search online but I know coffee grounds make great fertiliser for your garden but dont know about these or perhaps you were looking for another food use lol

There are some recipes here (http://www.criobru.com/cook-with-crio/) Karen, check them out to see if there are any ideas amongst them.

I reuse mine to make a second cuppa, some times a third, adding a scoop of fresh grounds, I dry the grounds, and reuse in recipes. The herb garden and lemon tree love them. I have been making the syrup that tenina has on her blog, yumo just add boiling water and it's ready to drink.

Thanks jeninwa. I was wondering where the crio concentrate recipe was. I had it but it has disappeared.

Thought I read somewhere that someone eats them!!! Haven't tried it myself as it's not something that could be found around here.

I've never heard of Crio Bru so went to the site and looked around. Interesting. I buy raw cacao beans, roast them, remove the skins and use the nibs, either grinding them or cooking them in liquid to draw out the flavor.
One of the reasons I ordered wattleseed from Oz was for a recipe combining it with cacao nibs to make a distinctive syrup for flavoring sweets.
Apparently Crio Bru expanded into the US a year or so ago but there has not been a lot of talk about it. I'm going to post a question on eGullet (the other foodie forum in which I participate on a regular basis) to see if anyone there has tried it.
As I can get raw organic cacao beans much cheaper, I doubt I will be buying much, but I plan to order some after the holidays just to see how it compares with my home-roasted product.

I hadnt heard of it either andie but I think its one of many 'rediscovered' foods popping up all over the place..we seem to be getting a couple every year...silly me forgot my brother is over in LA at the moment and so I am asking him if he doesnt mind going to the only place near LA that sells it in Burbank and pick me up some since he is coming here for christmas lol...will save me either ordering a whole whack of the stuff to get free postage or paying a mint for it to be sent...I do want to try to see what it its like!

Since I posted earlier today I called my buddy at the local health food store and she said they carried the product for awhile but had few sales and closed them out to get the shelf room for other items.
She said they tried them in their little juice and tea bar and thought they were not much different from the cacao nibs they grind for hot drinks. They roast the raw nibs to order in the microwave (http://www.tava.com.au/product_beans.html) and grind them just before brewing. In their commercial microwave it only takes about 2 1/2 minutes to roast a tablespoon of the nibs, which is all it takes for an extra-large mug (20 ounce), for people who like it extra "dark."

Be sure you tell him to declare it on his customs , immigration and quarantine form and to put it in a a handy place for the quarantine inspector or all his bags may be thoroughly searched.

good tip, Gertbysea saves a lot of hassles having all of the declaring things in 1 bag
