Title: Books For Cooks
Post by: Cuilidh on November 02, 2011, 07:28:52 am
I have just received a newsletter from one of the most dangerous shops in our neighbourhood - Books for Cooks.  They are a superb specialist book shop which I am usually too scared to enter, in case I never get out again!

They have just launched their ebook store - probably nothing TMX related at this stage, but perhaps that will come.  You can find them here  (http://ebooksforcooks.com.au/) - and don't blame me if you never surface from your visit.

I think that is really strange.

I have one of Pierre Hermé's  books that has both French and English text.  French on the left-hand page, English on the right.
I thought this was very clever back then (I think it was published at least ten years ago), and wondered why more cookbooks that span different cultures and languages were not done this way.

i thought so too andie... just comes up with a notice saying this:

We're sorry: this book isn't for sale in your country

Copyright restrictions imposed by authors and creators can mean that a title may only be sold to customers within certain countries or territories. Unfortunately these restrictions apply to this title. It's not for sale in your country.

I have never seen that before..postage restrictions perhaps or most often contact us for postage costs because they are hefty but saying it isnt for sale in your country is a new one...gave me a laugh...someone has issues somewhere lol

Frozzie, Johnro there must be a problem with downloading the Zumbo e-book.  Why wouldn't it be available for downloading in OZ...? Odd.

Cuilidh, thanks for the link.  Christmas isn't far away  ;D

maybe there is a problem somewhere i just found it odd that an ebook isnt available worldwide ..seems very strange to me... but sounds more of a techie problem if your getting the same message robyn...for an aussie bookshop or their online version not selling to aussies there is a big problem somewhere!!

Frozzie and Robyn, I've noted your comments re. the Zumbo book and will pop in to see the people at Books for Cooks.  The site has just been launched so I am hoping this is just a 'teething' problem.  I'll let you know the outcome.

Frozzie and Robyn I had the same message. I didn't buuy the book so took no notice. I love the Zumbo book but in reality I doubt if I would ever make anything from it. If it drops in price after Christmas I may get it for reading. I know I could spend hours reading it. Yoou never knnow Santa may surprise me. :D

OK, I dropped in to speak to Tim at Books for Cooks this afternoon and he was most apologetic and very embarrassed about the Zumbo problem.  He discovered it last night as well and is working on it – apparently there is a glitch somewhere that they have to sort out and he has been in touch with people whom he hopes can take care of this for him.  Some of Zumbos books are OK to buy and some are not and Tim doesn’t know exactly why that is.  You may just have to pop back in again in the next couple of days and see if it’s been sorted out yet.
