I know how you feel, I have had hay fever for weeks and weeks, it's part of living in Perth at the moment, my Dr said its the worst year he has seen for Hay fever. I have been taking Polaramine at night that is helping a bit.
-
I take polaramine too. I get hay fever worse when its dry and windy.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, was hoping to whizz up a potion in the tm.
Today i am sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, face, skin and roof of mouth, feel like i have a cold but i knw its hayfever.
Was fine in Hawaii, maybe shoud return.

It is that awful time of the year. I take an anti-histamine too, but wish there was a natural solution that actually worked. I have tried 3 rather expensive natural ones that haven't worked at all. When I get really bad with it I find that laying on the couch for 5 minutes with a cold, wet face washer over my face gives me some relief. :-\
-
Hally I really sympathise with you. My hay fever makes me ever so grumpy. This time of the year I use rhinocort nasal spray and if it gets bad I have a polaramine at night and telfast during the day. The rhinocort is a preventative and takes a while to work. It can be bought over the counter. I find when I have been away from Perth I always get a bad attack when I return.
-
Yes its shocking, been in bed most if the day, it zaps all my energy too.
I had to cancel my demo tonight :-[ so no 1/2 price bowl & blades.
I have taken natural nasal spray, 1 anti histamine at 3 am and another just now, plus sudafed!!!
Its a real waste f time.
H >:(
-
Oh Hally, what a pity your hay fever has caused you to miss out on the half price bowl offer. Sending hugs and kisses & hope you are feeling better very soon.
-
I think i will buy some rhinocourt.
Cooke, do you use thus daily?
My natural ne doesnt seem to do anything.
I hate pudding all the rubbish into my body, but cant stand the hayfever.
Why cant they make a natural one that works.
H :) not really happy, more like ths :-X
-
Yes Hally I use the rhinocourt daily. Anything is worse than a severe attack of hay fever.
-
Oh Hally you poor petal - I will seek the advice of pharmacist DD when she arrives tonight for dinner!!! :) :)
-
Any advice welcome
:)

Have you read up on the internet Hally - you can sometimes pick up some information which is useful there. Looks to me as if you have to be prepared for the onset of the hayfever season after reading some of these articles.
This (http://www.blackmores.com.au/learning-centre/article/hay-fever-natural-tips) one for example. And this (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/lifestyle/body-soul/ten-ways-to-beat-hay-fever/story-e6frf01r-1225936061763), and one more (http://www.hayfeversolutions.com/natural-remedies.html) for good luck :-* :-*
-
Oh Hally what a shame, hope you are feeling better soon.
-
I have fairly severe allergies to eucalyptus - especially at this time of the year when the oil on the leaves dries and the winds blow it around, many grasses and ornamental flowers . They are rare up where I am but when I drive down to Santa Clarita I have a bad time.
The only thing that works consistently for me is Zyrtec - the generic is now available and I'm pretty sure it is available in Australia as a friend, who has the same allergy wrote that she began using it last April and it worked wonders.
My doctor prescribed it for me before it was available over the counter and it has the advantage of not causing sleepiness as do so many antihistamines and it doesn't lose its effectiveness over time as was a problem with other antihistamines I used.
Before getting the Zyrtec some four years ago, this was the worst time of the year for me, even here in the desert. I had a constantly stuffy or runny nose and would awaken each morning with a sinus headache because of these allergies. I take a single tablet in the morning and have none of the symptoms that used to plague me.
-
oh poor hally...looks like andie may have the solution for you...hope it works and you all feel better and in control of your hayfever! :-*
-
Feeling a little better than yesterday, hopefully not all day bed today as so much to do.
Thanks JD, your an angel.
Andisenji, i am taking zyrtec atm, not doing much.
What I have realised from all this duscussion hayfever is not to be treated once you have it, it is to be treated by prevention before you get it. I suffer badly and only take meds etc when i am out if actio
Going to get rhinocourt and use it daily, the nasal spray i am using is natural and does nothing.
Do you guys take anti histamine all year as well or just at the start of the season.
The other issue i have is the anti hisamines i use seem to work for a while, then my body gets used to them and they dont seem to work.
I have had claratyne, polaramine, zyrtec, telfast, zadine (whch sends me to sleep but worked well). I find the drowsy ones work betterm but then i fall asleep, need to find a good one which doesnt make me drowsy.

Thank goodness you are feeling better, are you still able to get that demo?
Theyvare saying it a bad year for sufferers so might be worth consulting a doctor ( if you know of a good one). We have all been down with a nasty bug( I usually call it wog but my cousins in the UK were very offended as they don't call sickness that). It seems there is a lot around, I think the changeable weather doesnt help.
Stay well Hally, I'm sorry if you have missed out on the 1/2 price bowl offer.
-
Yes the demo was last night, but had to cancel. Was asleep pretty early.
I am getting the bowl and blades anyway, i have waited so long and as i told dh, you win some you loose some. nit sure wrhether he bought that, but he knws I am ordering.
Totally medicated up, if you shook me i would rattle.
Yes people who havent had hayfever before are getting it this year, so must be bad.
No hayfever in hawaii, i need to move, oh i wish.... No i do love Perth, we have the easterlys which are not good for sufferes.
H :)
-
I love to travel but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, think we are blessed.
I was going to say do it anyway and get another bowl. I paid full price and honestly have never had any regrets you actually add value to your machine because you can do so much more.
I wish I could afford another whole TMX, especially cooking for a vegetarian!
-
I take Zyrtec every day and have for 4 1/2 years. When I ran out of the pills a year or so ago, I had recurrence of allergies and after resuming them it took four or five days before I was back to "normal" and breathing clear.
I don't think it works immediately and my doctor told me to take it prophylactically beginning ahead of the "season" and continuing until the "season" ended but I found I had other allergies and it has been easier to just take it continuously. The generic is only a fraction of the cost of the brand.
-
Hi Andisenji,
Yes i am realising that everything i am taking is not an instant fix, it all takes time. I feel better today than I did yesterday so they are working but obviously needs to have a stockpile in the body to fight off the allergies.
Interesting that when you ran out of tablets you suffered again.
I just wonder what harm taking these everyday do to our bodies
Thanks :)
H :)

Every year I say to my body "you are going to defeat this hay fever ... you do not need medication ... you will be fine". Yes, well, needless to say it never works and I have to resort to some sort of antihistamine. I have tried various natural ones and Chinese Medicine as well over the years, but they are never quite strong enough and I end up back on Telfast or Zyrtec or one of the others.
Funnily enough, when we lived in Hong Kong I never suffered, so (for my hay fever, anyway) it is obviously one of the grasses that we "Westerners" cultivate, or something that doesn't grow in the tropical / humid climates that gets to me.

I'm 72 so I don't worry all that much. It is better than the bad old days when I had to take a lot of steroids, cortisone and always had to have a bronchodilator (inhaler) handy because the allergies also caused asthma attacks. I haven't had one of those for almost ten years - since I began taking daily antihistamines, instead of just when I had symptoms. I took Astelin nasal spray for several years and it worked great but I began to get nosebleeds, (a known complication) so had to go on to pills. My allergist tried Allegra and one other which worked fairly well but I had such success with the Zyrtec that became my standard. I was thrilled when it became available over the counter and even more so when the generic came out.
I had to stop taking cortisone because the side effects of swelling in my face, hands and feet were worse than the allergies. It was also doing some damage to my kidneys and my lab results were not good. That has mostly cleared up but my internist thinks that the long-term use of cortisone was one of the reasons I developed Type 2 diabetes because there is none in my family.

Andisenji, you poor love, glad to hear its in the past.
DH bought me some rhinocort, so have sprayed that and on anti hsamine and sudafed, beginning to brighten up. No enerrgy is an issue too.
H :)
-
Hally I use rhinocort all year round. I know it's a drug but I am not a nice person when I have hayfever. When I get an attack I sometimes find that taking a polaramine each night for 4 or 5 nights helps and gives you lots of anti histamines in the system to fight the histamines that are being created.
-
Cookie, I am going to be like you take the rhinocort everyday.
How do you remember to do so? I am yseless once i feel better it goes out of my head.
H :)
-
Hally - I always find it helps if you put whatever it is that you want to remember somewhere obvious - although my main way of reminding myself is to put a note into my shoe then, when I go to put my shoes on (I only have a couple of pairs so it's a pretty fool-proof system) I find the note and that jogs my memory.

I finished reading this thread today, and then went up to school to get the kids. Guess what, one of the mums there also mentioned Zyrtec as being great! The heavens must be trying to tell me something, as I too, have been having a difficult week with hayfever symptoms. I guess I'll be off to the chemist this weekend.
-

My mobile phone buzzes with reminders for different things every hour or two. After missing a couple of really important appointments (prolonged baby brain ???) I now program everything into my phone's calendar.
Hally I'm so happy to hear you are feeling better. Hay fever really can make you miserable.
-

Local Honey, whatever is giving you the Hayfever the bees should be putting in the honey, so feed it to your body inside and it should stop your body attacking it.
My son used to suffer every year, I used to give him a Honey Sandwich (he hated honey) and it would only take one and he would be fine.
Really worth a go, remember though IT HAS TO BE LOCAL HONEY, no good from the Supermarket. Hope it works, good luck. Please let me know.
-
Thanks penji01, wiil have to source some local honey I did read this n the net but thought it was an old wives tale.
Ds is getting nasty hayfever and he loves honey.
H :)
-
I'll be interested to see how this goes. An easy cure.
-
Yes cookie, mission this week to find local honey
H :)
-
What a shame this wasn't posted last week I just bought local raw honey from a chap at the sailing club and could have bought some for you both on Friday. I can see if he is interested in selling more.
-
Jen would love some honey :)
H :)
-
love it - what a brilliant cure from mother nature!
-
I would have posted earlier but I have been shut out for weeks, couldn't get on the forum, so I have had to come through on different email I have no idea what happened, after three weeks of sulking hubby finally sorted it. So I'm glad to be back I missed you all.
