If you read The Weekend Australian, don't miss John Lethlean's column "Throw a Thermie into the Mix" on page 12 of the APLUS supplement Oct 22-23 2011.
It's not a very scintillating review, although it does say that Dani Valent's book is inspiring and that he didn't like giving back his Thermomix, but it complains that the instructions in some recipes weren't basic enough for those who've never cooked with Thermomix before.
But any publicity is good publicity for Thermomix and Dani.

Thanks for sharing this, we have just started reading the W A, had to do a bit of hunting to find this review. A very interesting and honest review.

Hi Cecilia, thanks for sharing!
I had seen the review online but couldn't find it in the paper. Now I know where to look. It was great that John had a good play around with the machine and the book. He said he loved some dishes but that not all the recipes worked out, such as a troublesome mayonnaise.
I have to say, the mayonnaise recipe in In the Mix *does* work, though of course mayo is one of those things that can foil even the best cooks. Eggs are mysterious and magical things! Anyway, I demo-d the lime and chervil mayo as part of a cooking class I did recently at Essential Ingredient in Melbourne and it worked beautifully. And I did it again for a bbq & it behaved then too.
Ah well... I really do appreciate the time he put into the story. Though I guess it's not too much of a trial having a Thermomix for 2 weeks (the hardest part is giving it back, as he said). ;)
Cheers
Dani

I thought your own column in The Age on 4 October was a much better read, but then again, you're a much more experienced Thermomixer, so you could write with more perspective!!! Further, your article, like your book, conveys the passion and excitement of being a Thermomix owner.
Thermobsessed? You bet! (http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/restaurants-and-bars/thermobsessed-you-bet-20111001-1l24v.html)

Hi Cecilia,
Thanks, it was fun to write that article!
I've got another Thermomix story coming up in next month's Gourmet Traveller magazine. I hope you'll enjoy that one too.
And yes - I agree - there's plenty of passion & excitement in Thermoland!
cheers
dani

Thanks Katya. Don't know that I appreciate this comment from him though -
In the Mix attempts to communicate something many have known for a long time: that this cult-like device is used by a lot of professional and highly creative chefs, not just downtrodden, middle-class mums making hamburgers or soup.
Maybe he should have a look at our forum and see some of the lovely pictures of the food we cook - it is definitely not just hamburgers and soup >:(

Thanks for pointing that out JD, I had to go back and read the article again, with out all the interruptions when I read it yesterday.
Might have to send him an email and point out that we are not downtrodden middle class mums. Not happy Jan.

Thanks for the link Katya. I meant to go out and buy the paper but didn't.
