Ayran is a very popular yogurt based drink in Turkey which often accompanies döner kebap and lahmacun.
It is a very refreshing beverage, it is consumed alone as well in hot summer days
Some like their ayran thinner as some prefer thicker. You can adjust yogurt-ice-and water proportion up to your preference
Ingredients: (for 2 glasses of Ayran)
300g natural yogurt (Turkish/Greek type, unsweetened)
200g ice cubes (removed from the freezer 3-5minutes before use)
50g cold water
Salt
Preparation:
Place ice cubes, yogurt and salt in TM Bowl. Blend for 20 seconds speeding up gradually from 2 to 9
Insert Butterfly, add water and mix for 1 minute on Speed 3
Pour into glasses and serve immediately
Enjoy...

That does sound very refreshing,farfallina

It sounds quite similar to the Indian lassi - just turbo some fruit in (I'm a sucker for mango) and perhaps drop the salt out and you've got a lovely drink.

Yes it is refreshing fundj but I don't feel like getting 'refreshed' today as it got so much colder around here!
Ayran is mostly for Aussie folks these days :D
Cuilidh, I had never heard of lassi before
I've just quick searched on wiki and yes, it does look similar
In traditional ayran there are no spices though
It is very basic with just yogurt, water and salt
I use yogurt also to prepare smoothie kind of drinks as you do
I really enjoy them too
