This recipe is more or less my own invention. It was inspired after reading I love Bimby's Honey Soy Stir Fry Chicken Wings, The AWW Chinese Cooking Class Cookbook and Jeden Tag Genießen.
Name of Recipe: Königstein Chicken Wings with Varoma Vegetables
Number of People: 4
Ingredients:
1 kg chicken wings
1 medium onion (peeled and halved)
15g Vegetable Oil
70g dry sherry
60g soy sauce
35g corn flour
300g water
1 chicken stock cube
15g Kecap Manis
750g frozen vegetables (I used a pack containing broccoli, carrots and cauliflower)
Preparation:
1. Place frozen vegetables into Varoma and set aside.
2. Place onion in *: and 5 secs, speed 6.
3. Add oil and cook 10 mins, Varoma speed 2. Remove and place to one side.
4. Add remaining ingredients into *: EXCEPT for chicken wings. Blend together 5 secs, speed 5.
5. Add chicken wings and cooked onions into *: and cook on Varoma for 30 mins, speed 1. Place Varoma into position.
Photos:
I forgot, but now I have a camera in the kitchen at ALL times!!!
Tips/Hints:
After 30 mins, vegetables are cooked perfectly and chicken wings are tender. The sauce is plentiful. Hopefully there is enough left over for someone's lunch the following day.
BTW, Königstein is the name of the town I live in, just outside of Frankfurt (kind of like a suburb). It is up in the mountains approximately 400m above sea level. Königstein translates as "Kings Stone". I gazed out of my lounge room window, searching for inspiration and I found some! Google Königstein, it really is a pretty place!!!

CP - my kids loved your dish. Chicken was falling off the bone and that sauce was something else! Next time I will use fresh vegies and put them in probably halfway through the last stage (they just didn't have the same taste as fresh - although there was a lot less prep in tipping out the packet). No leftovers but there was quite a bit of sauce so even doggy got a slice bread to soak up some juices poured over his normal dog food. Yummo and ever so easy, thanks leesmac. Will def make this again.
SuzieG - This is a great recipe using a part of the chicken I don't usually use. I paired mine with left over coconut rice (from quirky's recipe) and it was delish!

Lee, just a query regarding this step
3. Add oil and cook 10 mins, Varoma speed 2. Remove and place to one side.
Why does the onion get removed and when do you add it back please?
I'd love to see a picture taken from your lounge window, sounds a lovely spot.

Oh Judy, thank you. Recipe writing certainly is an art and does require special editing. I have modified it and hopefully it makes sense now. xxxxxx

This sounds really yummy Lee. Just a couple of questions.
Do you think this could be made without the Sherry and add water in place of sherry? (We don't usually use any alcohol in cooking)
and secondly what is Kecap Manis ? (I could google it but it might be good if others don't know what it is as well)
Thanks
-
kecap manis is similar to soy sauce, according to this website (http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/Dictionary/K/Kecap-manis-5634.aspx), and another one said you may need to try sweetening soy sauce with a little sugar. Its not going to give the true flavour tho. The same website (http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/Articles/Wine-and-Alcohol-644/alcohol-substitutes.aspx) gives substitutes for dry sherry.

CP to the rescue. Thanks for that.

I use kejap manis a lot in cooking, because i make ondonesia food, Its a sweeter soya sauce, any asian shop sells it here in aus, and coles is updating its rangere here t gsrden city so they migt eve have it.
The brand i have is
Conimex, green bottle 240mls,

I will have to have a look and see if I can find some. Thanks hally

Hi Dede,
I am sure you could just use stock instead of the sherry. And an extra soy instead of kecap manis. I am just chuckling upon refection at how "Asian" my ingredients are considering it was inspired in the mountains of Germany. Am I mad? COmpletely!

Good to see you back Lee. Even if only for a short time.
-
dede kecap manis is just sweetened soy sauce so im sure you could use normal soy (if you buy it and not kecap manis next time round lol) and some kind of sweetener!!

I did have a clean up job from the onion/oil on the bottom of the jug (any tips on cleaning or method?) I did follow the recipe..
Thanks Suzanne

Love the photo Lee and will definitely try your recipe. I love chicken wings, and to have vegies with it is a big plus.
