Hi All
My thermomix is arriving this weekend and I am SO excited!
I have been reading some of the forum posts and am amazed at everyone's helpfulness and generosity of spirit - I look forward to being a part of that.
I was wondering what recipes you recommend trying out as a newbie - what are the quintessential TM recipes that will build my confidence, inspire me and get me going with my TM? (and that are relatively straightforward as well!)
Thanks,
Buzzbee :)

Hi Buzzbee and welcome to the forum. You must very excited. I don't post to much but do a lot of lurking and you will find there are so many people to help with any questions you might have. I don't have any quintessential recipes as such but just searching through the recipe section you will find more recipes than you will ever be able to make and I'm sure others will post their favourites.

Hi buzzbee and welcome to the forum. Why not pop over and enter in the poll (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=395.msg89754;topicseen#msg89754) so we can keep track of where our members are from.
We have lots of delicious recipes here that our members have kindly posted - and here is my current list of favourites (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) - we also look forward to hearing from you if you have any queries, comments or converted recipes of your own to offer.
I'd probably try the Vegetable Stock in your EDC (when it arrives), as it is a basis for so many recipes. Make sure you have at least:
200g celery
2 carrots
1 onion, 1 tomato, 1 zucchini
1 clove garlic
bay leaf
few leaves basil, sage and rosemary, 1 bunk parsley
150g rock salt (crystals)
olive oil (extra virgin olive oil = EVOO)
other things you could stock up on:
eggs, plain flour, basmati rice, bi-carb, cream, butter, couple of lemons, milk

Hi buzzbee, welcome to the forum. CP's list is fantastic, can vouch for many on there.
Here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=859.0) is a thread asking what people cooked when they received their machines, have a little read of that too.
Here's (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4991.0) another thread asking a similar question to yours.
The problem will not be 'what to cook' but 'which one to cook' - we have so many recipes here. Have fun.

Hi and Welcome Buzzbee, The choices are endless when it comes to recipes on the forum and the hardest part about being a new owner is working out what you want to make first. You could try something simple like custard from the EDC or maybe the bimby chocolate cake from this forum. I cant remember what I made first but make sure you make the stock first before attempting any main meal recipe as alot of them ask for the stock. Good luck and have lots of fun.

Welcome to the forum Buzzbee.

Welcome buzz bee,
Great idea making the stock first and we just love all the variations of risotto, my DD used to stand forever making them before TMX now it's our meal when we are in a hurry.
-
Hi and welcome to the forum buzzbee :)
-
Welcome to the forum buzzbee! As Bedlam was saying a risotto is a good choice for a first meal in TMX: simple, quick, & will get the "wow" from the whole family :)
-
Thanks for all the welcomes and suggestions everyone. My consultant is coming round on Saturday and we will be making the veg stock together. Can't wait! :)
-
Welcome to TMX World. My first recipe was the pumpkin soup - possibly a good choice if you're in Aussie seeing as it is STILL winter here!
-
So far I have made: veggie stock (with my consultant's help), beetroot hoummous, basil and spinach pesto, chocolate cake, scones, and an orange, pineapple and mango smoothie. And I peeled some garlic. All delicious - I am just loving my TM!
-
Glad to hear it is going well buzzbee.

Welcome Buzzbee!! enjoy your new toy!! ;D

THanks to all. Here is my first (of many no doubt) question ... tonight I made the mashed potato (sublime!). I followed the instructions from the EDC. Once it reached the temp of 100 degrees it started to splutter, the MC started bouncing about in it's hole, and bits of potato and milk started splashing out the top. I had to hold the MC on with my hand to stop it doing this. Is this normal?
-
Yes buzzbee it is pretty normal, just like a pot of boiling potatoes with the lid on. Best to place your MC on an angle in the hole so as to let the steam escape. If the spluttering becomes too much you can remove the MC and place the basket on top of the lid instead to stop spitting going everywhere.
-
You can also turn the heat down to 90o once it comes to the boil and put the MC back in place (or tilted if it still dances around).
-
Hi Buzzbee, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. I got my TMX on Friday night and I am absolutely loving it. Don't forget to give bread a try. It is just so simple and so tasty. Buy some fresh yeast and go for it.
